Bjorn Baker has Group 1 ambitions for the ever-improving Music Magnate, but his next assignment is the Listed $140,000 Yarraman Park-Horsepower Luskin Star Stakes (1300m) at Scone on Saturday.

In one of the feature races on day two of the popular country carnival, Music Magnate will clash with the likes of Ninth Legion, Cradle Me and Country Championships winner Clearly Innocent, who he beat by 3.5 lengths in a 1000-metre trial at Wyong on May 2.

While trainer Greg Bennett said Clearly Innocent wasn’t trying to match it with Music Magnate, Baker is confident he can extend his winning run to four following an impressive first-up win over Knoydart in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes at Royal Randwick.

“I think this is the right decision to go here. His last trial was really good and I’m very happy with him going into the race,” Baker said.

“I think it’s his perfect distance. He’s only second-up but he’s had a trial in between this and his first-up run so I hope everything goes well. I think he’s improved a lot from his first-up run and is a big chance.”

Music Magnate is starting to put together a handy record and if he wins on Saturday it will be his sixth victory from just 11 starts.

After Scone, Baker will set his sights on Brisbane where he’s looking to send his Written Tycoon four-year-old to the state’s biggest race.

“The Stradbroke Handicap has always been the long-term plan,” Baker said.

“Class got him over the line first-up and he’s at his best third-up.

“I think he’s improved a lot this preparation. He looks better in the coat, is healthy and his work suggests he’s going better than ever.”

The first of eight races at Scone on Saturday jumps at 12:05pm.
