Forster Clings To Stradbroke Hopes

3 minute read

Brisbane trainer Desleigh Foster has put on a brave face in the hope of gaining a Stradrboke Handicap at Doomben on Saturday with Too Good To Refuse.

Forster is hoping for a boost to her spirits after the tragic death of her stable star Cylinder Beach after he broke down in the PJ O’Shea Stakes at Doomben on Saturday just as he was being hailed the winner.

The switch of the Stradbroke to Doomben over the reduced distance of 1350m has placed Too Go To Refuse outside the cut line of 16 final acceptors, two less than the field limit at Eagle Farm.

Too Good to Refuse is 22nd in the order of entry but is knocking on the door for a start.

"He has been out to a spelling complex for some rest and work on the water walker,” Forster said.

“He is fit and provided he gets a chance I would expect him to race well in the Stradbroke.

"It is disappointing that there are only 16 runners in the Stradbroke but it’s what it is and we have to hope to get a run."

Meanwhile Newcastle-trained mare In Her Time arrived in Brisbane on Sunday to prepare for her Stradbroke tilt.

The Benjamin Smith-trained mare has been a big improver this year, winning the G2 Breeders Classic at Randwick in February before landing the G2 Millie Fox Stakes at Rosehill.

She returned to Newcastle after running fifth in the G1 Doomben Ten Thousand at her first Brisbane start on May 13.
