Godolphin Racing Report for August 19

3 minute read

Trainer James Cummings reports on the Godolphin runers at Caulfield and Randwick on August 19.

Caulfield

Race 6 - Vain Stakes (1100m)

VERANILLO: “This horse has really got something. I’d like to see him run a big, positive race first up. He put a lot into his autumn campaign but has come back very well.”

Race 7 - P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m)

HARTNELL: “He hadn’t raced at Caulfield so we took him there for a gallop on Tuesday and all the reports were good. He handled the track well and enjoyed it. It was also good to give him a little float trip to take him out of his comfort zone. I’m looking forward to him running well on Saturday and to seeing him onto dry tracks for the spring.”

Race 8 - Regal Roller Stakes (1200m)

SOUCHEZ: “I think he’s a horse who will really have benefitted from the rest he was given in the autumn. He’s a beautiful horse and he’s ready to run well first up.”

Randwick

Race 1 - Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m)

ALIZEE: “She’s the only filly in the field with match fitness and she gets a wonderful opportunity on top of the ground here. It was a classy win first up, she could hardly have been more impressive.”

Race 5 - Up And Coming Stakes (1300m)

SANCTIONED: “This might be a little sharp for him, but he’s a very interesting horse. He has no weight on his back under the conditions of Saturday’s race, but I also expect him to be competitive in the better set weights races later on. He’s been very good in the two trials he’s had this prep and he’s a colt with the strength and constitution to handle a good spring preparation.”

TOGA PICTA: “He showed a lot of promise with a barnstorming finish in the Fernhill Handicap in his final run as a two-year-old and he’s trialled well this time in. There are bigger fish to fry for him later in the spring.”

Race 6 - Warwick Stakes (1400m)

ALLERGIC: “He was very solid and consistent last preparation and had a nice, confidence boosting win before his spell. This is a quality race and short of his best distance. At this stage we’re looking at races like the Metropolitan which he was placed in last year.”

Race 8 - Show County Quality (1200m)

SPECTROSCOPE: “He has natural speed and he’s trialled very nicely. He’s fit enough to run a big race.”
