The Mick Kent-trained mare Quilate followed her win in a Benchmark 70 for fillies and mares (1500m) at Mornington on 30 September with really promising effort in taking out this Group Three race, her first win at stakes level in 18 starts. She settled in seventh place, one off the rails, behind a good tempo. She switched deeper on straightening and came with a strong late run to win well. Flying Jess raced back in fifth place, improved (deep) nearing the home turn, challenged at the 200m and then fought well for a good second. Prompt Response raced back in fourth place, behind a solid pace. She moved up well at the home turn, challenged at the 200m and then battled gamely under her top weight (58kg) for a close-up third.
