Scratchings reduced the field to a disappointing six runners however ultra consistent Kiwia won well despite being last for a good part of the race for win six from ten starts. He settled second last, one out, and was last down the side. Under rider Damian Lane he moved up to be widest just short of the last corner then joined in past the 200m and had them covered over the last 100m to win comfortably. Samovare led past the 800m, tried to break clear turning in but was collared at the 200m then held on well for second from Maurus who waited for a rails run turning in but had nowhere to go in the straight to lunge into third late from Spectroscope who had every chance in the run home.
