Godolphin Update For October 21

3 minute read

Godolphin head trainer James Cummings sums up the stable's runners at Caulfield and Randwick on October 21.

CAULFIELD – October 21

Race 2 - Polytrack Gothic Stakes – Listed (1400m)

BEAU GESTE: “We gave consideration to running him in the Blue Sapphire but Kerrin McEvoy who rode him last start felt he’d be better at seven furlongs. The team won this race last year with Peacock and I feel fairly sure this colt has a class edge on him. We’re very pleased with how he’s trained on since he ran behind Viridine two weeks ago and looking forward to pressing on to the Carbine Club Stakes on Derby Day.”

Race 3 - New Zealand Bloodstock Ethereal Stakes - Group 3 (2000m)

SPEEDWAY: “This filly has come into her own this preparation. She’s putting together an excellent record as the races have got longer. She looks like a filly on the way up and we know she’s effective at 2000m which is a big thing in her favour here.”

Race 4 - Ladbrokes Classic - Group 3 (2000m)

ATARAXIA: “He’s shaping up as one of our better three-year-old stayers. He’s a half-brother to Complacent who was placed in a Derby, so he’s got the pedigree and the stamina. His effort last start to win over a mile in Listed company showed he was going in the right direction. He worked very nicely at Flemington on Tuesday, the gallop has tightened him up for this. At this stage he’s one of our top Derby prospects.”

Race 5 - Priceline Pharmacy Coongy Cup - Group 3 (2000m)

SPECTROSCOPE: “He seems to be racing himself into form. He probably hasn’t been as dynamic as he was last time in when he looked like he could be one of our better spring prospects. It’s possible that he hasn’t been entirely comfortable on the firm tracks this preparation, so we’re looking for him to find some form on Saturday.”

Race 7 - Harrolds Caulfield Sprint - Group 2 (1000m)

BADAJOZ: “He’s raced his way to a level that requires him to run in these types of races. His Rosehill win was impressive and he was dominant at Caulfield last start. He’s a very fast, very genuine sprinter who looks to be up to this class under these conditions.”

RANDWICK October 21

Race 6 – Southern Cross Group Brian Crowley Stakes - Listed (1200m)

MALAHAT: “We’ve had this race in mind for him for a while. He finished fourth to Viridine two starts back when he led. There wasn’t a lot between them and we have a very good opinion of Viridine and he’s trialled nicely since that run.”

PIRACY: “He’s worked his way through the grades and shown that he’s improving with every run. He was solid at Randwick last start when he finished fourth and although he goes up in class he can be competitive if he gets some cover.”

Race 7 – ICD Nivison - Group 3 (1200m)

KINSHACHI: “This looks to be a strong race but she showed good form in Queensland during her last prep. She might need a run or two to reach her peak and some rain would be an advantage.”

MATERNAL: “She has similar form lines to Kinshachi who she beat narrowly in the Gai Waterhouse at Ipswich. “Her two barrier trials have been satisfactory, she’s been a very consistent filly who can figure here in a very good field.”
