The Golden Rose (Gr 1, 1400m) winner Trapeze Artist scored a smart first-up win. He was smartly away and then travelled well outside the leader (Memes). He moved up strongly to take the lead at the 300m and was not seriously threatened from that point to score quite impressively. Showtime raced in second last place (one off the rails) in the six-horse field, before commencing a move from the 300m. He then kept running on in good style to take second in a most promising first-up effort. The favourite Addictive Nature raced in fourth place on the rails, got to third on straightening and kept battling on quite well to take third. Global Glamour raced in third place one off the rails, put in a brief bid at the 300m and then battled on to take (1.9 lengths) fourth. The Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) Ace High raced in last place in the small field and caught the eye in running on well over the latter stages for (2.3 lengths) fifth.
