Group 1 winner Shoals, who won the Myer Classic last campaign, yesterday finished third in a 990-metre barrier trial at Cranbourne.
A three-year-old filly trained Anthony Freedman, [n[Shoals[/n] disappointed when eighth in the Kevin Hayes Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) behind Booker on 10 February but finished two and a quarter lengths behind the Robbie Laing-trained sprinter Lord Of The Sky in heat one.
"She scoped with a bit of mucus after the Kevin Hayes Stakes, so whether that's affected the performance more than we're giving credit to I'm not sure," Anthony Freedman’s son Sam said."But we've had her checked out all of last week and everything's come back pretty normal, her bloods and everything, so all we can do is drive on.”
