He raced horses with Cummings for some 40 years. Together they won the Melbourne Cup with Think Big twice, Saintly and Viewed as well as the Cox Plate three times, Caulfield Cup, Doncaster Mile and a number of classic races.

The noted stars that raced in his familiar colors of black and white checks, yellow sleeves and black and white check cap included Saintly, So You Think, Catalan Opening and Faint Perfume.

Dato Tan Chin Nam owned Think Big Stud at Burradoo in the southern highlands of NSW where many of his big winners retired.

The Moonee Valley Racing Club renamed the Feehan Stakes as the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes, run as a Group 2 lead-up to the WS Cox Plate in September, in his honour.
