Boom Dot Com needs rain to excel says trainer

3 minute read

Wesley Vale trainer Glen Stevenson says rain prior to or during Wednesday night’s meeting in Launceston will enhance the chances of his talented mare Boom Dot Com to take out the benchmark 60 handicap over 1400m.

In Brief

  • Boom Dot Com does best on soft going.
  • Tassie O'reilly well-placed to notch first win for stable.
  • Gregorian Chant gets her chance to win again.

Boom Dot Com has won three races for Stevenson since arriving from Victoria at this time last year and her recent form has been good without winning.

The mare won a benchmark 60 handicap three starts back in early December over 1650m and the trainer had been hoping to put her over that distance again, but he can't find a suitable graded race over that trip.

"I've got to run her over 1400m again because there is nothing for her over the longer trip, but it isn't the end of the world and she should still be hard to beat over 1400m," Stevenson said.

"I was pleased with her effort last start when fourth to Take the Sit in the Magic Millions Classic because she was only beaten just over a length and she got no favours in the run."

Stevenson's potential stayer Tassie O'Reilly was a game third over 2100m in similar grade to what he meets on Wednesday night and he should only need to replicate that effort to make his presence felt at the business end of proceedings.

Gregorian Chant (race 6) has been placed at her past four starts and while she is one of those horses that usually finds a way to be beaten, her latest effort was sound.

"She's run second to Dark Wanderer last start and he is a very good horse and got away with a couple of cheap sectionals when in the lead.

"My mare has done extra well since that run and I think she gets her chance to notch her first win for us this time in."
