Warrior winds up Tassie mission undefeated

3 minute read

Outstanding two-year-old Turk Warrior kept his unbeaten record intact in Hobart on Sunday when he again demoralised his opposition in the $50,000 Ella Baché Hobart Tasmanian Sires Produce over 1400m.

In Brief

  • Turk Warrior remains unbeaten.
  • Interstate trip on the cards for star two-year-old.
  • Turk Warrior clearly state's best juvenile.

It was the first time the Glen Stevenson-trained gelding had stepped out beyond 1200m and he made light work of the task.

The gelded son of Outreach had only four to beat but it was the way he went about putting them all to the sword without raising a sweat that signaled to his trainer that he is ready to be given the chance to dance on the big stage.

Turk Warrior is unbeaten from six starts with his wins including the state's two richest juvenile events, the $100,000 Elwick Stakes, and the $150,000 Gold Sovereign.

"We have been talking about taking him across the water next month for a $100,000 race at Swan Hill (Elvstroem Classic) over 1300m but I'm also keen to see what's available for him in town (Melbourne metropolitan)," Stevenson said.

"We have established pretty much that he is the best two-year-old over here, but it would be nice to see where he fits into the big picture interstate.

"It all depends on how he comes through this race, but if nothing has changed, that won't be a problem."

Rider Ismail Toker settled Turk Warrior ($1.07) third off a sluggish tempo set by Tappa Miss ($14) in the small field of five.

But when Toker gave his charge a squeeze the gelding quickly hauled in the leader and went on to score by two lengths from Krupt Candy ($12) that ran home strongly with Tappa Miss snaring third over a length away.

On a soft 5 surface, Turk Warrior covered the journey in 1m.27.37s and ran home his last 600m in 36.38, which was slower than the 1400-metre maiden winner Evelina Rose in the previous race, suggesting the Sires Produce was run at a somewhat pedestrian tempo.
