The Wyong and Newcastle Cups will be the short-term targets for Laure Me In this spring.

All options are on the table for Laure Me In this campaign after he passed a crucial distance test with his fast-finishing second in the Grafton Cup.

The seven-year-old had been untested beyond 2000m until his past two starts but proved his staying credentials when he followed a fifth in the Ipswich Cup (2150m) with a closing second to Purrfect Deal over 2350m at Grafton.

It has opened the door for the horse to tackle races up to 2400m this preparation with trainer Matt Dunn  nominating the Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) on September 3 and Newcastle Cup (2300m) two weeks later as obvious goals.

He is also open to giving Laure Me In a shot at the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick in October if his form warrants it.

"At this stage, we're thinking maybe the Wyong and Newcastle Cups are nice targets for him," Dunn said.

"But there are other options as well, maybe a Metrop. There are plenty of options now he's proven he can run a staying trip."

Laure Me In has been kept in work at Dunn's Murwillumbah stable since his Grafton Cup effort on July 8, his training regime peppered with trips to the beach to keep him fresh.

However, the trainer does have some reservations over the 2000 metre journey of Saturday's Premier's Cup Prelude at Kembla Grange with the distance of the race extended when the meeting was shifted out of Sydney due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

"When they transferred to Kembla, they stretched from 1800 to 2000 for that race. The 1800 would have been perfect, the 2000 is a bit of a worry but I think he'll be OK," Dunn said.

"If we want to keep him on his program, he needs to go there so that's the way we'll go."

Laure Me In was a $5 chance with TAB fixed odds on Friday with Godolphin galloper Ziegfeld a $2.25 favourite.
