The Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale celebrated a record-breaking opening day yesterday (Tuesday).

Local buyers responded strongly and overcame any fears over a lack of eastern states interest because of Covid restrictions.

Local bloodstock agent John Chalmers secured the day one sale topper with Lot 174, a Playing God-Moodometer colt fetching $330,000.

"He's a big staying type with plenty of scope," Chalmers said.

Moodometer enjoyed success under Steve Wolfe, claiming a best win in the Group 3 WA Oaks over 2400m in 2006.

Victorian bloodstock agent Mark Pilkington secured Amelia Park's Russian Revolution-Samovare filly on behalf of Darren Thomas and Seymour bloodstock.

Samovare is a half-sister to Sydney Group 3-winning colt Tiger Of Malay and quality WA galloper Samizdat.

Amelia Park's head boss, Peter Walsh, a good friend of Thomas, retains a share in the filly. A trainer has yet to be determined.

Durrant was the successful bidder on colts So You Think (Lynward Park) and Willow Dale Farm's Deep Field, they fetched $320,00 and $300,000 respectively.

Simon Miller paid $250,000 for Amelia Park's Nicconi filly out of Amelia's Love.

Book one's average price of $91,175 set a new Perth record. The gross reached $12.8 million and the clearance rate was 85 per cent.
