In Brief

  • Stevenson expects Music Additon to win again.
  • Gregorian Chant on last chance.
  • Carr confident Queenborough Flyer can keep unbeaten record intact.

Music Addition has won two of his only three starts in Tasmania for Wesley Vale trainer Glenn Stevenson with his latest win an effortless five-length victory in a small field of five.

The seven-year-old again meets a small field (six) but he comes up against stalwart sprinter Blaze Forth that comes off a last-start win over Hela over 1400m in Hobart four weeks ago.

Prior to that run, Blaze Forth defeated Galenus in Launceston in mid-April and both wins were with in-form apprentice Chelsea Baker aboard and she will again take the sit on Sunday.

Blaze Forth goes up in weight (56.5kg) while Music Addition that lugged 56kg last start, drops to 54.5kg, so he still has an advantage at the weights in open class races.

"I can't fault Music Addition's work since his last run and provided we don't strike a heavy track he should be winning again," Stevenson said.

"His form on tracks rated worse than soft six is not good, so we don't want any heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday, but I believe the weather forecast suggests that won't be the case."

Stevenson will saddle up Gregorian Chant and True Scotsman in the Winning Edge Presentations benchmark 68 handicap over 1430m with True Scotsman his best winning chance owing to the application of blinkers for the first time since joining Stevenson's stable.

"I have applied blinkers for this run and I'm hoping it makes a difference because he raced with success in Victoria wearing the shades and had success."

Gregorian Chant won a BM68 in Launceston two months ago but her three starts since have been well below par.

Stevenson has Bethpage engaged in the last race on the eight-event card and while up in grade she drops significantly in weight carrying only 54kg.

"Bethpage is on a seven-day back-up coming off a hard run in Devonport, but she pulled up enormous and despite the wide barrier (eight of nine) she is a good each-way chance."

Siggy Carr has also entered her smart three-year-old filly Queenborough Flyer in the class three over 1100m and while racing well out of her class, she is confident the daughter of Alpine Eagle will be up to the task.

Queenborough Flyer won on debut in Launceston late last year but after a subsequent trial she was diagnosed with a fractured vertebrae in her neck that required treatment and a lengthy spell.

She won a trial impressively in Hobart last week and has come on since that outing according to her jockey-trainer.

Carr also expects her two-year-old filly Sistine to run well in a maiden over 1200m.
