In Brief

  • Premier trainer has multiple winning chances in Hobart on Sunday.
  • Street Tough is ready for first-up win.
  • Travelling Gigolo looks best of Brunton team.

Brunton has his sights on winning his 13th trainers' premiership and with an 11-win lead over his nearest and only rival Adam Trinder, another good day the office could give him an unbeatable lead.

Brunton goes into the meeting having already trained 67 winners and that is courtesy of a five-win haul at the last Hobart meeting two weeks ago.

On Sunday he could end up with another five winners, but whatever the outcome he says his talented sprinter Street Tough looms as his best winning chance.

"Street Tough has spent a bit of time racing interstate and he developed a habit of missing the start, but Dave (jockey David Pires) has been working on that and if he does everything right on Sunday, I think he can lead and be too good for them," Brunton said.

He has four of the seven final acceptors with Savs Finale, Brinktop Lad and in-form mare Kuroset making up his quartet.

"If Street Tough has an off day any one of my other runners can win without surprising."

Street Tough lines up in the last race on the eight-event program.

Brunton has three of the six runners engaged in the opening race, the It's Why We Race BM76 over 1600m, but they might all struggle to outgun the in-form Freelancer from the Barry Campbell stable.

Freelancer has won his past three in Devonport, two of which two have been over 1600m.

The Wordsmith gelding is backing up from a comfortable win over 1350m last Sunday and while he has never tackled the Hobart track, the gelding is in career best form.

Broadway Babe, Shammgod, and Khari tackle the Ladbroke It! 1100-metre maiden with Broadway Babe likely to start favourite and in the following race over 1390m he will be relying on Move Like Jagger to end his maiden status.

His well-bred five-year-old Yarra Master is one of three Brunton will saddle up in the Madeleine Ogilvie BM62 over 1600m and he is aiming to bring up a hat-trick of wins and has the services of two-kilogram claiming apprentice Taylor Johnstone that gets him in well at the weights.

Brunton is hoping Yarra Master can develop into a major cups prospect, so he is clearly his best winning chance while Amancaya and Tiesto are place hopes.

I'm Back and Laylow Pluck are the best of his three chances in the Graham Family Funerals BM62 over 1200m and Zade's Stories might have the edge over Donna's Day in race six based only on barrier draws, with Donna's Day drawing the near outside gate (10) while Zade's Stories will start from barrier one.

Travelling Gigolo has won three of his past four starts and while he goes up in grade, he should start an odds-on favourite to win again in the Bec Thomas Mayor of Glenorchy BM68 over 2100m.
