The Carbine Club Plate is the long-range plan for smart filly Fear the Sting following her impressive maiden win in Hobart last Sunday.
In Brief
- Fear the Sting strolls to easy maiden win.
- BIg plans for sprinting filly.
- White pair put in eye-catching runs.
Fear The Sting made her debut in June with an eye-catching fourth of 11 at Devonport after which she was given a decent spell.
She resumed with a second to Labby Rock in Launceston last month but on Sunday she delivered the goods by leading throughout to take out the Wellington Cricket Club Maiden over 1100m with David Pires aboard.
The Scott Brunton-trained three-year-old was untroubled to win by 3-1/2 lengths from Geegees Misty with Zulu Angel a fast-closing third ahead of stablemate I'm Keefe.
The filly is owned by a big syndicate that includes Tasmanian Jack Jumpers CEO Simon Brookhouse and Suzie Jacobson who recently joined the board of Tasracing representing the thoroughbred code.
"She is a very nice filly that is showing a lot of promise," Brunton said.
"We won't be targeting the longer fillies' races because she's a bit too brilliant to go to races like the Thousand Guineas (1600m), but the Carbine Club (1100m) looks a nice target."
The Carbine Club will be run on Derby Day, 10 February, so she could have one more start or have a trial going into that race.
The Gary White-trained Zulu Angel was an eye-catching effort as he got buried back in the field before seeing daylight in the home straight and once balanced, he rattled home and there was a bit to like about stablemate I'm Keefe that was having his first start this prep and will improve greatly from the outing.
I'm Keefe has had only two starts but the son of Toorak Toff-Tesla Coil could be Tasmanian Derby bound.
