Tomlinson set for fresh start for SA's leading stable

3 minute read

Former Queensland and New South Wales apprentice Sheriden Tomlinson will make his South Australian riding debut at Gawler on Saturday.

Sheriden Tomlinson, 23 is on a three month loan to the Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable from Scone trainer Brett Cavanough and has done the bulk of his riding in Queensland having ridden 109 winners since debuting in 2018.

"Sheriden has been given an amazing opportunity with Richard and Chantelle Jolly,'' Racing SA Apprentice Academy Master Briony Moore said.

"They're going so well at the moment and they've really looking for a metropolitan claimer.

"It's a clean start for him at a new state with an amazing opportunity to try and get the last little bit out of his apprenticeship.

Tomlinson's move to Adelaide came about by accident.

"I think it was a chance meeting,'' Moore said.

"Richard has been up at the Gold Coast, and he bumped into Brett Cavanough who is Sheridan's current master and he said it would be great for him to get some metropolitan opportunities and he thought he would be a very good fit for Adelaide.

"He arrived on Sunday and rode at the Strathalbyn trials Monday, riding on Saturday, so really jumps into the deep end,'' she said.

Moore said Tomlinson was in the perfect position to make an immediate impact.

"There's a lot of good Queensland apprentices and you've got to be in the right stable, so I think he has the skills and ability to make the most of this opportunity for sure,'' Moore said.

Tomlinson, who can claim three kilograms at metropolitan level and 1.5kg at the provincials, has been booked to ride Does It for his new bosses as well as the Stuart Padman-trained Rialtor and My Ruby for Wayne Francis and Glen Kent.
