Clarken/MacGillivray hoping for Port Adelaide Guineas repeat

3 minute read

Dan Clarken and Oopy MacGillivray will be hoping history can repeat itself in Saturday’s $102,250 Listed Port Adelaide Guineas (1800m) at Morphettville.

The Murray Bridge trainer partners claimed last year's feature with Harleymoven and have Thirsty Guest trying to repel a host of interstate raiders.

Dan Clarken said he's always felt the horse would thrive out in trip and is upbeat regarding the horse's chances.

"He's a typical So You Think, he needs to find a nice rhythm and have things go his way, but if that happens, they'll know he's there,'' Clarken said.

"I never really wanted to see him leading last time, but that's the way it turned out, I would have liked a better barrier, but we'll come out even and hopefully he can find a spot.

"Ryan (Hurdle, jockey) came up and rode him the other day and said his he felt great, I've always thought he's a Derby horse and it would be good if we could fight them off again,'' he said.

The stable also have More Reward stepping out in the $127,250 Listed Auraria Stakes over 1800m, a race they finished eighth in last year with The Map.

More Reward was doing her best work late behind As Time Goes By over the mile in the Clare Lindop Stakes and Clarken said getting out in trip is ideal.

"I was really pleased with what she did last start,'' Clarken said.

"She's really come on well since and I think getting to the 1800m heading to the Oaks is ideal for her,'' he said.
