There will not be an overseas excursion, or four-year-old racing season, for Jacquinot, who has been retired to Widden Stud.

The Hunter Valley operation on Wednesday announced that last Saturday's Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m), in which the three-year-old finished fifth, had been the two-time Group 1 winner's final start.

The son of Rubick had been touted as a potential member of a large Australian team set to descend June's Royal Ascot gathering, and a possible starter in this year's $10 million Golden Eagle, but Widden's Antony Thompson said the decision had been made to commence stud duties this year.

"Beating your own age group is one thing, but beating older horses at weight-for-age in Group 1 competition is the mark of an exceptional colt," he said.

"His rate of improvement from preparation to preparation reflected his talent, temperament and trainability, which we hope to see in his offspring."

Jacquinot retires a winner of five of his 12 starts, his biggest victories coming in last year's Golden Rose (1400m) and the C F Orr Stakes (1400m) at Sandown in February.

He also placed in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) as a two-year-old and won the McNeil Stakes (1200m) and Manfred Stakes (1300mn) at Group 3 level at three.

Bred by Lindsay Maxsted, Jacquinot is out of the unraced Pierro mare Ponterro, who is a half-sister to Randwick Guineas winner Inference and Mick Price, who trained Jacquinot in partnership with Michael Kent Jnr, said the colt has the attributes required to make a successful stallion.

"Jacquinot had speed, soundness, temperament and genuine Group 1 ability," Price said.

"His pedigree is excellent and, most importantly, he had what all good stud colts have; tenacity."

Widden is yet to finalise fees for its entire 2023 roster, which is headlined by star stallion Zoustar, but has announced Jacquinot will stand for $33,000 (including GST).
