Roser strikes LOIS double

3 minute read

Last Wednesday’s Devonport meeting was the first eligible since the announcement of the Ladbrokes Owners Incentive Scheme (LOIS), and $6,000 in additional prize money payments went to connections of three maiden winners.

A long-time supporter of Tasmanian racing was the primary beneficiary of the additional $2,000 provided by or eligible races, with Wayne Roser owning two of the first three winners on the nine-event program.

"It's an expensive industry to be in ownership and this additional contribution to prize money is huge from Ladbrokes," said Wayne Roser who estimates he owns around 25 horses with trainer Adam Trinder.

Roser became the envy of all racehorse owners following the success of $11,000 purchase Mystic Journey, who amassed over $4.2m in prize money earnings before being sold to Japanese interests to continue life as a broodmare.

Roser's connection with Mystic Journey was behind the name of his second winner on Wednesday, two-year-old filly Kireina Marubrah who won a maiden over 1350m.

"Kireina is Japanese for beautiful, and Jeannine (wife) and I lived in the Sydney suburb of Maroubra many years ago and Jeannine found the indigenous spelling which is how we came up with the name Kireina Marubrah," Roser explained.

Roser started the day with a win in the opening race through another two-year-old filly Cherokee Dancer, thrilled to be part of a big day for Adam Trinder who had four winners.

"I've had horses with Adam for around 12 or 13 years, him and Leah (Goodrick – partner) are close personal friends now."

The other maiden winner on Wednesday's program was wedged in between Roser's ownership double, with the Team Wells-trained Flight Ready victorious in race 2.

Owners Chris and Sharon Wickham were the beneficiaries of a prize money purse in excess of $35,000 which wasn't lost on co-trainer Trent Wells after the race.

"It was essentially his Grand Final today having the Tasbred and Ladbrokes bonuses attached to the race," said Wells.
