Versatile Duggan ready to win again

3 minute read

Trainer dabbles in thoroughbreds and harness.

Dual code trainer Adrian Duggan heads to Hobart on Sunday with just two horses but isn't without a chance of landing a double which follows on from his harness racing success last weekend.

Duggan has Freddy'sajetstar in the 1200m Maiden and Under His Eye who resumes in the 1100m BM60.

"He's a good fresh horse, he's been working well so he shouldn't be far away," Duggan said.

Under His Eye hasn't raced since March, he was placed at two of his three runs before taking a break and has previously won first-up.

Freddy'sajetstar has been placed at three of his six runs this campaign including at his past two starts. Sunday will be the 5YO's 15th career start and the trainer says he has been a little frustrating.

"His last two have been really good, he's been a little unlucky. He works good all the time at home and he's now starting to put it together on race day.

"He has been frustrating, we've tried working him the opposite way and that might have helped a little bit, we thought he would have won a race well before now."

Freddy'sajetstar has drawn gate 15 but will come into 12 if the emergencies don't start, he will be ridden by Hayley Mc Carthy who has been aboard at his past three runs.

"It may not be too big a disadvantage being drawn out wide, he shouldn't get cluttered up out there. Hayley can put him wherever she likes, he usually jumps and lands pretty handy, so we'll leave it to Hayley to take it from there."

Altogether Duggan has 12 horses in work, three thoroughbreds and six standardbreds. Last Friday night at the Launceston harness meeting Duggan won with Mister Eagle, driven by his son Jacob, who like his father, has a hand in both camps.

"He rides work for Siggy Carr every morning and then comes home and helps me with the harness horses, so it works out well."

Looking for a good thing on Sunday, Global Awareness is ready to break through for her first win in the 1600m maiden.

The 3YO has been running on strongly over shorter trips and looks cherry ripe to step up in distance, add to that the Brunton/Pires combination and Global Awareness stands out as the bet of the day.

It's another early start with the first of eight at 11.53. Live coverage on Sky Racing 1 and TasracingTV.
