'Warhorse' Mac scores Bold win

Chris Waller and Kerrin McEvoy have combined to claim the Premier’s Cup Prelude with Bold Mac.

Bold Mac doesn't have the star power of many of his high-profile stablemates, but trainer Chris Waller says he is an important bread-and-butter horse for the team.

The former New Zealander notched his seventh success from 25 starts in Saturday's Premier's Cup Prelude (1800m) at Rosehill to continue his affinity with his home track where he has posted three of his wins.

"He's just a tough old warhorse," Waller said.

"There's nothing special about him but they pay the bills, give the owners a lot of fun and they're good horses to follow.

"Kerrin (McEvoy) gave him a beautiful ride, he had winning form last start and did the same thing today."

Bold Mac was one of five Waller-trained runners in the race with recent stable addition Iene Fortune best of the rest, finishing fifth.

McEvoy said Bold Mac was enjoying his racing and it helped that he was able to find a good position despite an awkward midfield draw.

"He's a lovely old horse. He's a dream to ride and he just loves his racing," McEvoy said.

"He's in a good frame of mind, stepped out well, I just put him in a bit of a spot then got a bit of a rest when we got that spot.

"He's genuine, he goes in any ground and he's having a nice prep."

Bold Mac ($8) ended the winning run of Fawkner Park ($2.25 fav), who was a fast-finishing second, with Kalapour  ($10) also running boldly to grab third.

Meanwhile, apprentice Zac Lloyd had a mixed afternoon, landing a double in the first two races before his day was tempered by a five-meeting careless riding suspension for attempting to force a run on Kirkeby rounding the home turn in the third event.

It was his second such breach to start the season after he was suspended for careless riding at Wednesday's Randwick-Kensington meeting.

The cumulative penalties start on August 6 and expire on August 27, meaning Lloyd will miss three Saturdays including the Group 1 Winx Stakes card on August 19.
