3 minute read

Cranbourne was to be the venue for racing in Victoria this Wednesday, but inclement weather has seen the meeting transferred to the Pakenham Synthetic track where eight races are scheduled to be run and won.

Unfortunately, the meeting has been decimated by scratchings so there's a lot of short priced favourites that should be winning.

Our preview of the meeting can be found below.

RACE 1 - 1:00PM: Ladbroke It! Maiden Plate (1200 METRES)

Tidal Force (6) resumes here and is also having his first start in Australia for the training partnership of Busuttin and Young.

The Darci Brahma gelding brings solid form from New Zealand where he was narrowly beaten on debut before competing well and not being beaten by far in two heavy track races.

He looked good finding the line in three jump outs ahead of this first-up assignment.

1 Unit – Tidal Force (6)

BET NOW: Cranbourne Race 1

RACE 2 - 1:35PM: SILKS Maiden Plate (1300 METRES)

Colleano (1) will take benefit from his debut performance at Geelong last start.

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained three-year-old gelding was as green as grass, wanting to run about in the straight, but despite that he found the line well to finish third to Sheva by 1.5 lengths.

That race has proven to be an excellent form race with 4 subsequent winners coming from it.

He's been kept fresh and gets blinkers applied for the first time which should keep his mind on the job.

2 Units – Colleano (1)

BET NOW: Cranbourne Race 2

RACE 3 - 2:10PM: Hygain Maiden Plate (1400 METRES)

Awash (2) has been building to a win and should enter this race fourth-up at peak fitness.

The Maher and Eustace-trained son of Merchant Navy was particularly good last start over 1350m at Donald when despite racing three wide the trip, he powered to the line to finish a neck third.

There looks to be good speed in the race which should see Mark Zahra settle just off it before coming with a big finish.

1 Unit – Awash (2)

BET NOW: Cranbourne Race 3

RACE 4 - 2:45PM: BOQ Frankston & Moonee Ponds Maiden Plate (1600 METRES)

Highly Likely (7) improved significantly second-up following a yearlong break.

The Carey and Walker-trained four-year-old mare worked home strongly at the end of 1726m at Geelong but just couldn't run down Mickio and finished second by 1.75 lengths.

She'll strip fitter third-up and she did handle a wet track last preparation.

Celine Gaudray, who claims 1.5kg, should be able to settle in a prominent position from barrier 3.

1 Unit – To Be Frank (10)

BET NOW: Cranbourne Race 4

RACE 5 - 3:20PM: Ladbrokes Cranbourne Cup - 52 Days to Go Handicap (1000 METRES)

Princess Halo (3) resumes here following an eight-week spell.

The Nick Ryan-trained mare ended last preparation with a strong on-pace win over 1000m on the Ballarat Synthetic track.

She's warmed up for her first-up assignment with a nice piece of work that resulted in a Flemington jump out win.

Blaike McDougall should be able to settle in a forward position.

1 Unit – Picky (7)

BET NOW: Cranbourne Race 5

RACE 6 - 3:55PM: Freeway Ford Handicap (1200 METRES)

He's Handsome (5) found the going too firm when failing first-up at Geelong.

The Moody and Coleman-trained Hellbent gelding improved second-up when running on from the back to finish third by 2.6 lengths over 1300m at this track.

He will strip fitter third-up and can settle closer from a better draw.

The wet track track should be to his liking given he wasn't far away from a subsequent Group 1 placegetter, Japanese Emperor, on a heavy 9 surface last year.

1 Unit – He's Handsome (5)

BET NOW: Cranbourne Race 6

RACE 7 - 4:30PM: Frankston Sand Soil & Mini Mix Handicap (1400 METRES)

Lady Adelaide (13) raced three wide last start at Casterton over 1400m and fought on well to finish third by just under a length.

The Patrick Payne-trained five-year-old mare can be expected to show sharp improvement given her excellent second-up record.

That includes a 3.5 length win over this course and distance when having her second run back two preparations ago.

Her wet track form reads well for this race.

1 Unit – Awol (6)

BET NOW: Cranbourne Race 7

RACE 8 - 5:05PM: Renew your Club Membership NOW Handicap (1600 METRES)

Moscow Red (1) will appreciate the drop in class after failing over 1700m at Warrnambool last start.

The start prior, the Henry Dwyer-trained 10-year-old finished off powerfully for a head second over this course and distance.

Celine Gaudray goes back on and the veteran galloper does handle wet tracks well.

1 Unit – Aeecee Supreme (7)

BET NOW: Cranbourne Race 8
