Andrew Gibbons will combine with leading Newcastle trainer Kris Lees when travelling to Tuesday’s Tamworth meeting where the pair have two leading chances.
Andrew Gibbons will link with Kris Lees when odds-on favourite Naahro ($1.75 favourite on TAB) contests the Every Occasion Catering Maiden Plate (1600m), while they will also be in action when She's Got Teeth ($10) runs in the Tamworth City Toyota Super Maiden Handicap (1200m).
"Naahro resumed from a spell with an eye-catching second at Scone behind her stablemate Invincible Whip," said Gibbons.
"That was over 1400m and she came from a long way back and hit the line strongly.
"There was a lot to like about the performance and when he went back to Scone for his second run back, I thought he would just go there and win."
Naahro started as a heavily backed $1.70 favourite on that occasion and again had to settle for a second placing.
"I was disappointed in the fact that he didn't win, but in saying that he just seemed to hit a flat spot when I wanted him to sprint," Gibbons said.
"It took him a while to wind up, but once he did, he hit the line well again.
"Kris has elected to step him up in trip to the 1600m at Tamworth and that should suit him now. It's a race he gets his chance to break through in."
Gibbons is yet to ride She's Got Teeth in a trial or a race, but the jockey thinks she is in a race that suits at her first run back from a spell.
"She's only had the five starts but she has been placed in two of them, including a third at Newcastle," said Gibbons.
"She's had two trials to prepare for her return so Kris will have her ready to run well. She's drawn wide but with any luck she should be somewhere around the mark."
Gibbons has two other rides at Tamworth in the shape of Waydie ($151) for Sue Grills in the Hawkk Facilities Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1000m) and Miss Nicolini ($26) for Craig Martin in the Barnson Benchmark 58 Handicap (1400m).
