ROSEHILL December 5

Inside Grass; Soft 6

14 Heats – 2 x 1030m (1 Open; 1 Maiden); 12 x 900m (4 Open; 4 2YO; 4 Maiden)

A session that may have unearthed a couple of topline two-year-old prospects.

AMAZING EAGLE (Gerald Ryan/Sterling Alexiou): Wow! No youngster in Sydney this season has made such a huge impression in his first trial. This Capitalist colt oozed class as he strode to a dominant lead and kept extending his margin to eventually score by more than seven lengths under the quietest of rides from Tim Clark. He left his rivals spread out over many lengths and the exciting visual impact of his win was backed up by the clock as he posted easily the fastest time of the morning (53.61; 34.22), more than half a second better than the next best 2YO heat and lengths quicker than the times recorded in the open heats by some good older horses.

ZOUBABY (Richard & Will Freedman): In the heat before Amazing Eagle appeared this Zoustar filly made quite an impression winning her 900m heat by more than three lengths in fast time for the session (54.26; 35.03), leading with ease and doing it with style through the line. This was her second trial and if she carries on with this rate of improvement she is sure to be winning races.

NEWCASTLE November 30

Course Proper; Good 4

21 Heats – 2 x 1200m (1 Open; 1 Maiden); 8 x 950m (4 Open; 4 Maiden); 11 x 800m (3 Open; 3 2YO; 5 Maiden)

A strong session boosted by runners from leading Sydney stables.

BOSTON ROCKS (Nathan Doyle): Proved he was a fast runner in his first prep and his natural talent was again on show in this resuming trial win over 950m. Sat a length back off the leader under a big hold and was under no pressure to gain the upper hand over the last 100m under a kind ride from Mitchell Bell while recording the fastest time for the eight heats over the distance (54.37; 33.46). Provincial special.

HIGHNESS (Michael Freedman): Didn't run up to his early Randwick trial win when sixth on debut in the Breeders Plate but this Snitzel colt is above average and will win races. Looked a class above his rivals winning his 800m heat (50.35; 34.39) without Tommy Berry having to apply any pressure. This hitout is sure to bring him on for his summer campaign

ROYAL MERCHANT (Ciaron Maher/David Eustace): Last season's G1 Goodwood winner didn't run to that form in three spring carnival starts but a freshen since she last raced on November 11 has done the trick judging by the way she put away a strong open company heat over 950m (54.68; 33.64). Settled at the rear before Louise Day took her wide and allowed her to run strongly to the line, spearing clear over the last 50 metres to win by more than two lengths from notable types GARRISON and CANNONBALL. Augers well for whatever she targets over the summer.

Expect this session to produce plenty of winners at all levels in coming weeks as most heats had depth and featured a good mix of well performed runners and lightly raced prospects from good stables.

 WARWICK FARM November 30

Polytrack; Synthetic

6 Heats – (2 x 1175m (1 Open; 1 C1/Maiden); 4 x 740m (1 Open; 2 2YO; 1 Maiden)

Little to take away from this small set of polytrack trials with the exception of a sharp win by the fast running OCEANS ONE.

OCEANS ONE (David Pfeiffer): Winner of three from 15 over short courses has not raced since August but looks ready for a good return after winning two recent Warwick Farm trials. Followed up his November 16 trial win with a fast win in this open heat over 740m (43.12; 32.70), running strongly on the bit to open up a big lead and cruise home by almost four lengths.

For the record the fastest 1175m heat was won by the resuming McGEEHAN (72.49; 35.21) and the John Sargent-trained TOKYO LADY won the quicker of the two 2YO heats over 740m (43.53; 33.12).

RANDWICK November 28

A Grass; Soft 5

12 Heats – 2 x 1200m (2 Open); 4 x 1045m (2 Open; 2 Maiden); 6 x 742m (1 Open; 2 2YO; 3 3YO)

Another session advertising the depth in the Waterhouse/Boot stable.

KEENAN (Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott): Promising 3YO colt by Capitalist made a sharp return in his first trial since October, leading his 742m heat with ease and running through the line with plenty in reserve for a soft win (44.09; 33.51). Sure to build on his record of a win and three placings from four starts to date up to 1300m.

TYCOON DESHAUNA (Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott): Another impressive trial win by this unraced Written Tycoon filly. She won her first two trials in April and May and kept the record intact with an unextended win her 742m heat (44.60; 33.83). Slow time but that doesn't detract from her potential.

Waterhouse and Bott also won both 2YO heats over 742m with the talented pair STRAIGHT CHARGE (43.09; 33.22) and TOQUE (43.80; 33.41), their times well in advance of the older heat winners.

STRAIGHT CHARGE was given a good test, running quick time in his first trial since he finished a close second in the Breeders Plate while the unraced TOQUE backed up her big Warwick Farm trial win on November 8 with another strong effort, getting the better of her stablemate JUPITER HILLS after tracking three wide and four wide through the heat.

Michael Freedman produced an interesting unraced maiden from New Zealand who trialled under the name of ADMIT but will race here as KATSUMOTO. The 4YO gelding had three trials in NZ for a win at Foxton in October and showed good talent to win his 1045m heat (63.77; 35.39).
