The Devonport duo of trainer Adam Trinder and his stable apprentice Erica Byrne Burke combined to win the feature race on the program, the $50,000 Golden Mile (1650m) in Devonport on Friday.

Erica Byrne Burke, who dominated the day with three winners, took Miss Charlie Brown ($4.60 – $7.00) straight to the front, and the 5YO was always travelling like a winner.

"She was super today, she felt really good going to the gates, well and bright in herself, I found the lead pretty easily, she travelled a little keen in the back, I tried to keep her together as good as I could and build through the corner and she put them away nicely," Byrne Burke said.

Miss Charlie Brown is likely to have her next run in the $125,000 Devonport Cup, (1880m) on 10 January.

Runner-up Ashy Boy ($9.50 – $3.10) put in a super run after being caught wide throughout and will be hard to beat wherever he next starts.

He is Royal and Tough

Trainer Rowan Hamer is unsure of where to go with his smart 4YO Royal and Tough who scored a brave win in the BM68 (1350m) after leading throughout.

In the end, Royal And Tough ($3.10) had a short half head to spare over Sharma's Last ($1.70) with Gee Gee Can Win ($19) third.

Royal And Tough has raced 12 times, and this was win number five.

"There's a 4YO race at the end of the carnival, I wasn't keen to go to the Devonport Cup, he's a got a lot of maturity issues but there's not a lot of lead-up races to that race because he's rated so high so I will have to look at the program and work it out," Hamer said.
