WYONG December 13

WYONG MAGIC MILLIONS 2YO CLASSIC: Betting for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast on January 13  has SPYWIRE sharing the second line after his impressive Sydney debut win for the powerful Ciaron Maher/David Eustace team.

SPYWIRE's place in the market will depend on how he performs iat Wyongc, a noted preliminary to the big dance at the Gold Coast. The Wyong field contains several other highly regarded Gold Coast candidates including HIGHNESS (Michael Freedman) and TOQUE, yet another unraced trial star from the Waterhouse/Bott stable.

I am very wary of the Snitzel colt HIGHNESS. He finished only sixth in the Breeders Plate on debut but his trials leave no doubt he is above average and he could be the horse to turn the market on its head with an impressive performance at Wyong. TOQUE is a typical Waterhouse/Bott youngster who has been fast in her trials and is trained up to jump and run on debut.

TRIAL POINTERS

NEWCASTLE November 30: HIGHNESS didn't run up to his early Randwick trial win when sixth on debut in the Breeders Plate but this Snitzel colt is above average and will win races. Looked a class above his rivals winning his 800m heat (50.35; 34.39) without Tommy Berry having to apply any pressure. This hitout is sure to bring him on for his summer campaign. Last season's G1 Goodwood winner ROYAL MERCHANT didn't run to that form in three spring carnival starts but a freshen since she last raced on November 11 has done the trick judging by the way she put away a strong open company heat over 950m (54.68; 33.64). Settled at the rear before Louise Day took her wide and allowed her to run strongly to the line, spearing clear over the last 50 metres to win by more than two lengths. Augers well for whatever she targets over the summer.

WARWICK FARM November 30 (Poly): OCEANS ONE, a winner of three from 15 over short courses, has not raced since August but is ready for a good return after winning two recent Warwick Farm trials. Followed up his November 16 trial win with a fast win in this open heat over 740m (43.12; 32.70), running strongly on the bit to open up a big lead and cruise home by almost four lengths.

RANDWICK November 28: Michael Freedman produced an interesting unraced maiden from New Zealand who trialled under the name of ADMIT but will race here as KATSUMOTO. The 4YO gelding had three trials in NZ for a win at Foxton in October and showed good talent to win his 1045m heat (63.77; 35.39).

WARWICK FARM November 16: Speed runners were suited in the short course heats. OCEANS ONE showed excellent pace in his first trial since August to win his 796m heat in the fastest of all the short course heats (45.86; 32.61), doling it easily without coming off the bit. Being a Class 3 horse there are plenty of country and provincial options for him.
