Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney and provincial barrier trials at Wyong on December 15 and Rosehill on December 18.
ROSEHILL December 18
Inside Grass; Good 4
15 Heats – 4 x 1030m (2 Open; 2 Maiden); 11 x 900m (3 Open; 1 3YO; 4 2YO; 3 Maiden)
It seems Bjorn Baker has been sitting on an unraced natural talent who continues to build a reputation with impressive trials.
LUNA FIELD (Bjorn Baker): We've been hot on the tail of this unraced Deep Field gelding since his early trial wins last season. He's now had five trials for four wins and a second and there's obviously a story behind why his debut has been delayed/ However it's obvious he has the ability as he again displayed his natural speed to lead with ease and cruise away with his 900m heat (55.11; 34.73) under a cold ride from Rachel King. His time wasn't out of the box but he was running with plenty in reserve.
TAMERLANE (James Cummings): A freshen since his two starts at the Flemington carnival for a win and a fourth has obviously done him good. Looks set for a good summer after he travelled easily in the lead to record a strong win the fastest of the four 1030m heats (61.80; 34.87). Can be well placed in coming weeks.
Other Godolphin runners worth noting off good trials included the heat winner PARISAL, PEREILLE, unraced 2YO TARPAULIN and the maiden runner VOILE.
Noted speed runners SECRET REVOLUTION (55.55; 34.84) and RUPERTAAR (54.88; 34.34) had no trouble recording impressive wins in their 900m heats.
TARPAULIN took the eye with his strong second from last in a slow 2YO heat (56.06; 35.65) won by DARK ARTS. The better 2YO heats over 900m were won in good style by the free running Capitalist colt KING OF ROSEAU (54.30; 34.74) and LILAC (53.91; 34.85), a Justify filly who responded well after soaking up the pressure in a fast run heat sitting outside the leader.
The maiden performer SPEED PERSONIFIED ran to his name by speeding away with his heat over 900m (54.20; 34.57), running sharper time than LUNA FIELD.
NOTED TRIALS
XX Tamerlane; Luna Field
X King Of Roseau; Llanddwyn; Lilac; Misty Legend; Morning Sun; Parisal; Pereille; Rupertaar; Secret Revolution; Speed Personified; Tarpaulin; Voile
WYONG December 15
Course Proper; Good 4
23 Heats – 2 x 1200m (1 Open; 1 Maiden); 9 x 1000m (5 Open; 4 Maiden); 12 x 845m (2 Open; 4 2YO; 6 Maiden)
Couldn't get excited about the 2YO trials but some maiden winners in waiting impressed in their heats.
OUR KOBISON and POWERFUL PEG are well performed prospects ready to build on their good records while it's only a matter of time before the Waterhouse/Bott stablemates TYCOON DESHAUNA and LOVE AND LIGHT win their maidens.
MRS MAREE was the pick of the 2YO heat winners.
NOTED TRIALS
X Blacklist; Diamond Drummer; Dize; Emphatic Bel; Love And Light; Mrs Maree; Nosey Parker; Our Kobison; Powerful Peg; Tycoon Deshauna;
"It's Luncies coming away with the trial."
