Loloma Farms has selected their exciting three-year-old gelding Oscar's Fortune as their runner in the $5 million The Quokka on April 20th.

The progressive son of Rich Enuff burst onto the scene last year and tore through the grades rapidly, kicking it off with a comfortable maiden victory on debut at the Belmont midweeks in late August.

Although only rating as an average maiden winner (86+) with Racing and Sports, we would soon come to learn how important that plus would be.

With trainer D M Luciani and connections eager to push on with their talented prospect, the three-year-old continued to raise the bar, culminating with a gutsy second place finish in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes, producing a figure of 115 when 1-1/2 lengths behind inaugural The Quokka winner, Overpass.

The 115 R&S Rating saw him finish the campaign among the best three-year-olds in the country, with that figure comparable to what the placegetters ran in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

With that all coming in his debut preparation, it's easy to see why Loloma Farms sourced a slot for their stable star, leasing the slot from Jack Lee-Steere Thoroughbreds.

Oscar has well and truly gone on with it since resuming this preparation and launches into Saturday with arguably the perfect platform.

Despite only running to 105 first up in the Bluff Knoll, the three-year-old went to a new level a fortnight ago when recording a peak rating of 118 when fending off The Quokka favourite Amelia's Jewel in the Group 3 Roma Cup.

Only a pound off what Overpass produced in his success in the $5 million feature last year, 118 is the same rating Bella Nipotina ran when beaten a long neck in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick on the same day.

A fair indication of the gelding's potential was obvious when he was supported all the way through by a handy judge in Western Australia's premier rider William Pike. Pike has been fast-tracked back from injury to ensure he was ready for Saturday's main event and has a great opportunity to utilise his mount's tactical speed after drawing favourably in barrier three.

Shortening slightly since saluting in the Roma Cup, Oscar's Fortune currently sits on the third line of betting at $6 with TABtouch, with WA's pinup mare Amelia's Jewel favourite at $3.10 and Overpass at $4.60
