Rookie Rockhampton trainer Sileas Green has taken to her new profession like a duck to water and is hopeful of landing her first double at Callaghan Park on Friday.
Green is the partner of former top central Queensland jockey and trainer Adrian Coome and is the daughter of well-known Rockhampton trainer Graeme Green.
She cut her teeth working for many years as foreman for her father and spent time in Sydney with leading trainers Peter and Paul Snowden as well as a six-month stint in England with Darley.
After deciding to return to Queensland to be closer to family, Green also worked with Eagle Farm trainer Kelly Schweida.
Green has only been training for 15 months and is already striking at nearly 16 per cent.
From 38 starters she has trained six winners, five of which have come on her home track at Rockhampton.
She is hoping to improve on that when she saddles Srini in the Benchmark 60 over 1300 metres and Dragon's Snip in the QTIS Three-Year-old Handicap over 1200 metres.
Green is affectionally known as "Mully" after her constant watching of the television program Mully Grubs while growing up and is confident of her chances with both runners.
Srini – a Ryan Wiggins mount – snapped a three-year losing streak when the seven-year-old won a Benchmark race at Rockhampton last month.
"It was a very satisfying win as it was three years in the making," Green said.
Green has retained apprentice Tahia Fenlon for Dragon's Snip who is chasing as hat-trick of wins after winning against his own age at his past two Rockhampton starts.
The son of Hidden Dragon continues to please Green following his latest win over 1100 metres.
"He's going for three in a row but this is a tougher race and Fine Shot looks the one to beat," she said.
"But he's been working very well and eating well so he looks a terrific chance again."
The Nick Walsh-trained Fine Shot has won three of his four starts with his only defeat coming last start he was taken to Brisbane in November.
The son of Spieth showed he was a future Brisbane winner finishing strongly for third to the Matt Dunn-trained Golden Decade over 1200 metres.
Golden Decade has franked the form since by winning a Highway race at Randwick in December.
