PRIDE OF JENNI CLAIMS AUSTRALIA'S RICHEST MILE RACE
Not for the first time in recent history, it was Pride of Jenni who disrupted the narrative and underlined her class on the way to claiming the All-Star Mile.
Pride of Jenni won back to back Group 1's last spring, both at double figure odds, and in one of them she upset Mr Brightside, Fangirl and Alligator Blood.
Today she was again the one to deliver the goods, and now must surely be uttered in the same breath as those above mentioned superstars.
In Sydney, it was Zougotcha who underlined their class in the Coolmore, claiming the prize with a 29% price advantage over best tote.
Red Card and Linderman led the best of the rest across a day packed with Group racing in Sydney.
The day belonged to a number of superstars, but it will be Jenni who's name will be spoken about the longest as we reflect on another terrific day of Autumn racing.
BEST BACKED WINNERS
It looked like being Mr Brightside before Pride of Jenni entered the picture.
The honours in the end went to a pair of winners in Sydney. Linderman (pictured) got the job done for James McDonald at $1.97, with 81% of the market hold sitting with him.
Red Card got it done in the Maurice McCarten with a roughly 60% hold, and this is horse who is often a fascinating watch on the Exchange.
He has been subject of some of the best lays, and the best backed winners repeatedly over his career.
At Caulfield, the honours probably sat with Fistsoffury in the second who won with a 55% hold of a $466,000 matched volume.
FIRMERS AND DRIFTER S
Can't Recall One opened the day at Eagle Farm with a good result for punters, firming from $1.60 into $1.37 before winning.
Spalmer followed a similar pattern in the first event at Geelong, firming from $1.82 into $1.41 before winning comfortably.
White Bear was one of the bigger firms at Caulfield in Race 3, moving from $2.66 into $1.88 before running third.
Rosehill's biggest firmer was a horse named Drifter…
Drifter firmed (make sense of that) from $6.20 into $3.15 before winning Race 3.
Whinchat (pictured) was almost identical in the last event in Sydney, firming from $6.10 to $3.10 before winning well.
Transatlantic is a frequent name amongst the firmer drifter category at Eagle Farm, and that was the case again, moving from $4.40 into $3.05 and winning Race 6.
BAD BEATS AND IN-PLAY BOLTERS
It feels harsh to declare someone a bad beat just because they were a relatively short priced favourite in a feature race, but in terms of matched volume it still rings true to a degree.
Mr Brightside held more than 80% of matched volume in the All-Star Mile.
Which equated to well over $650,000 being held on the champ.
Peace Treaty (pictured) was also a very popular favourite in the Mystic Journey before going down.
Branching out to some sport now, and the mighty Melbourne Storm made it 2-0 with one of the greatest tries of all time.
Trailing inside the last 15 seconds the Storm hit $55 in-play against the Warriors who were $1.02 at the same stage.
The Warriors were matched for more than $10,000 at less than $1.20 through the final minutes.
In the English football championship we saw Coventry maxed out at $1000 in-play against the Wolves!
Coventry were down 1-2, but scored in the 97th and 99th minutes to pinch a remarkable win.
PRICE ADVANTAGE
Gear Up (pictured) got the day off to a flyer at Caulfield…
With a victory at a BSP of $22.83, he represented a 44.7% advantage over best tote.
Fistsoffury was 16.9% better in the second, Wolfy was 24.6% better in the third, with Lempicka (11.4%), Waltz On By (18.5%), Pride of Jenni (11.2%) and Titan of Choice (18.2%) all producing strong results.
Eight out of ten races at Caulfield produced price advantages, and you'd be $294 better off for the day with a $10 outlay on each winner.
Red Card (14.7%), Zardozi (25.9%) and Zougotcha (29%) were the best results for the day at Rosehill.
