NARS sees the nation's most promising young jockeys ride against each other in the apprentice-only race series.

Madi Derrick replaces the suspended Victoria Corver to represent the Racing WA team during NARS alongside Cassey Martinan, Luke Campbell, Rosie Mahony and Zephen Johnston-Porter.

Derrick, who is in the final six months of her apprenticeship, said she was keen to represent WA during NARS at Ascot on April 3.

"Obviously it's very disappointing for Victoria having to miss out, but I'm glad to be the replacement and hopefully we can get the win for WA," she said.

Derrick piloted an impressive five winners in one meeting at Belmont Park last month and said the achievement was confidence building.

The apprentice also praised Racing WA's Racing Training team – which includes coaches John Claite and Peter Hall, as well as Racing Training Manager Sharyn Lancaster – for providing guidance.

"Obviously they play a huge part in developing us as jockeys," Derrick said.

"Without them we wouldn't be able to get to where we are now and develop into fully fledged jockeys."

There will be two races in each heat of the series, with other WA apprentices able compete in the races at Ascot. However only Derrick, who is the nominated rider, can score points for WA on April 3.

"I missed out on the series at the start of my apprenticeship due to COVID, and then again in my time in New South Wales because they don't participate," she said.

"I'm very happy to get the opportunity now and being my last year as an apprentice, I won't get the chance again."
