2024 NZ THOROUGHBRED BREEDERS STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes is a Group 1 race run under Weight For Age conditions for fillies and mares usually at Te Aroha race course usually conducted by the Racing Te Aroha.

The NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes is run over 1600m.

The NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes is the only fillies and mares Group 1 in New Zealand.

This is the feature race each year at Te Aroha. It was conducted at Te Rapa in 2021/2022, Pukekohe in 2023 and Ellerslie in 2024.

In 2021, Avantage won the delayed running and it meant she took her record to nine G1 victories.

NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes was worth NZ$400,000 in 2024.

It was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020. It was then delayed by a week and run at Te Rapa after being abandoned first time in 2021 due to a wet race day.

Some notable recent winners of NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes include Imperatriz (2022), Avantage (2021), Diademe (2015), Viadana (2014), Xanadu (2013), Dane Julia (2009), Special Mission (2008), Saint Cecile (2001/2002) and Tall Poppy (2000).
