3 minute read

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Monday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 2:05PM TAB HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

16. Tuileries caught the eye with her second trial which resulted in a win at Hawkesbury a few weeks back. Plenty to like about how she found the line there. Don't mind a middle draw as it gives options and she might hold the key to the race.

Dangers4. Deconstruction made a promising debut when placed over 1100m here almost a month ago and no doubt he will like the extra 200m. Open to improvement and if he does he's in the finish somewhere. 6. Froebel Star is back in class after tackling Listed company back in early February. Handy trial win since then and gets her chance from gate one. 14. Mergeila was runner-up in the trial behind Froebel Star and while she's drawn the outside there's only a straight run to the home turn. Well worth keeping in mind.

How to play it: Tuileries WIN ($2.90 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 2:40PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

1. Union Gap opened last prep with a win over this track and distance and was competitive as he stretched out in distance. Asked to win his latest trial recently and should be prominent from a handy draw. Expect him to run well.

Dangers5. For Victory has a negative racing pattern which tends to work against him, as it did when running into third at Kensington three weeks ago. Can't overlook, just needs things to go his way. 3. Mr Buster is a promising type yet to miss a place in six starts and this is his second Australian prep. Ran last in Union Gap's trial but by no means was it disappointing. Keep safe. 8. Leica Storm fought back well when headed in a Highway six weeks ago. Races on speed and could give a sight.

How to play it: Union Gap WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 3:15PM DRINKWISE PLATE (1300 METRES)

13. Little Jeanie started a solid favourite when resuming at Kensington and just missed. Is back 100m and draws wide but the barriers aren't so important at this start point. Hard to beat if the race works out for her.

Dangers7. Stand Aside was placed in a couple of good races in his first prep and didn't quite produce the same performances in October. Punched out to win his latest trial and his likely racing pattern should give him a chance. 1. Armed Forces was sent out favourite first-up and held his ground in a close third over 1100m. Perhaps the extra 200m helps him but he's now an eight start maiden and becoming costly. Can win but take on trust. 5. Make A Call was expected to go a lot better than he did at his first run for the new stable at Kembla. Senior rider goes on and he's a 17 start maiden so had a few chances but he's shown the ability to surprise if he puts it together.

How to play it: Little Jeanie WIN ($3.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 3:50PM KIA ORA PRAGUE HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

2. Flying Destiny is worth a look here, he has the speed to get across onto the pace and performed well in this sort of company after a couple of provincial wins. Nice recent trial and he's a good chance in an open race.

Dangers6. Power Of The Brave has a handy record from seven starts to date and he was in the market in the Sandown Guineas before a spell. Won a recent trial under some urgings, drawn okay and he can run well fresh. 10. Kandinsky Abstract looked good winning on debut but didn't measure up in the spring in stronger company. Remains a colt and has blinkers on fresh. Won a trial leading in and has to be respected. 11. Until Valhalla can be forgiven for failing in the Spring Stakes back in November. Fitter for a couple of recent trials and showed some ability in her first two starts. No doubt 1400m will suit her next start but can run well here.

How to play it: Flying Destiny EACH-WAY ($6.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 4:30PM JAMES SQUIRE HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

7. Nails Murphy had a promising first Australian campaign in the spring with a third and a fourth in BM78 grade. Given some time and hit the line well at the end of his Gosford trial. Should be very competitive here fresh.

Dangers8. Romeo's Choice just doesn't run bad races and he did look the winner at Kensington last time only to be nabbed late by Firestorm over this trip. Won here in January and will be around the mark again. 6. Fall For Cindy is another that's rarely far away and it's worth noting her second-up record reads a lot better than first-up. That said she did run second when resuming last time in and no surprise if she's closing in on them late. 4. Huesca led and boxed on okay when resuming at Sandown a couple of weeks ago. Should be better for that, only his second run in 11 months. Keep in mind.

How to play it: Nails Murphy WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 5:10PM DARLEY STALLIONS HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

5. Quick Tempo looks well suited here in a race that should be truly run. Not a lot of luck first-up at Rosehill then up to Group 3 he wasn't disgraced again behind Red Card after settling last. Wide gate of no concern to him, if he gets the right back to follow can be hard to hold out.

Dangers9. Dashing Legend resumed in the same race and was well supported there but didn't fire after being put back in a pocket at the top of the straight. Inclined to be forgiving of that and from gate one she stays under notice. 8. Unflinching is a speedy type who has been racing well in Melbourne though last win was in a 955m event at Moonee Valley. Big weight drop here and can give a sight. 6. Renosu ran a nice race first-up behind Brudenell at Randwick then disappointed after leading at Rosehill six weeks ago. Freshened up and capable of bouncing back.

How to play it: Quick Tempo EACH-WAY ($8.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 5:50PM INGLIS EASTER YEARLING SALE 7 & 8 APRIL HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

6. Konasana was excellent when resuming over the unsuitable 1100m at Kensington as she hit the line full of running late. Might be one more run away but this trip ideal and she should be charging at them a bit harder this time.

Dangers13. Kirragirl is fresh off a Kembla maiden win but it was an impressive one as she led and extended effortlessly late to win by a couple pulling up. Class jump here but commands some respect. 5. Azula hasn't raced since the spring where she took on a couple of Group races in Melbourne. Perhaps not quite up to that level at the moment and comes here off a solid trial win. Keep in mind. 8. Terrestar loomed up to win here last time out and was just outgunned. Has a weight swing in her favour this time and every chance from the soft draw.

How to play it: Konasana EACH-WAY ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
