Maven Belle was a nice one. Will the 2024 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Trentham on Saturday provide form for those getting over more ground?

2024 MANAWATU SIRES' PRODUCE STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Manawatu Sires Produce is a Group 1 race run under Set Weights conditions for two year olds usually at Awapuni race course conducted by the Manawatu Racing Club.

The Manawatu Sires Produce is run over 1400m. It was first run in 1908 and won by Maori King.

The Manawatu Sires Produce is probably the strongest of the juvenile races in the season.

It was run at Trentham in 2024.

Fillies won three runnings of the Sires in a row before Yourdeel.

After winning the Sires in 2017, Melody Belle would confirm her form. While her 3yo career wasn't so successful, she would become the star WFA horse in New Zealand winning a string of G1s like the Tarzino Trophy, Windsor Park Plate, Waikato Sprint, Otaki-Maori Classic and Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes.

Manawatu Sires Produce was to be worth NZ$450,000 in 2024.

It was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Notable winners of Manawatu Sires Produce include Maven Belle (2022), On The Bubbles (2021), Yourdeel (2019), Avantage (2018), Melody Belle (2017), Anabandana (2011), Il Quello Veloce (2008), Jokers Wild (2006), Keeninsky (2004), One Under (1999), Ballroom Babe (1995), Moonshine (1994), Snap (1993), Lycra (1990), Summer Haze (1980), La Mer (1976), Darryl's Joy (1969), Up And Coming (1958) and Desert Gold (1915).
