James Cummings has last year's winner Kallos returning to Adelaide alongside stablemate Athelric in one of the deepest editions of the 1100m feature in recent memory.

"It's a pretty strong edition of the race this year," Cummings said.

"Hyphothetical and Queman there, it's a strong race,'' he said.

Kallos was an impressive first-up winner of the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield back in February and returns to Adelaide following two luckless runs in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate behind Queman and was then again luckless in the Group 1 Galaxy at Rosehill in Sydney.

Cummings said there was a lot to like about Kallos' latest effort despite finishing ninth of 14 behind stablemate Zapataeo.

"It was an excellent effort in a messy race,'' Cummings said.

"One of the fastest finishing runs on the day.

"He's taking genuine Group 1 Sydney form to the race, he's done it before, it would be nice to kick off out South Australian assault with some good competitive chances,'' he said.

Jason Holder has landed the plumb ride on Kallos, while Jacob Opperman's impressive season in the saddle has been rewarded with the ride on Athelric.

"He should improve with that handicap run under his belt,'' Cummings said of Athelric.

Leading Victorian trainers Sam and Anthony Freedman have a strong hand in the race, Hypothetical bringing some solid Victorian form over the border while Snapped will be chasing her third win from as many starts at Morphettville having won the Proud Miss last season before an impressive last-start win in the City Of Marion stakes.

"It's a strong edition,'' Sam Freedman said.

"She'll (Hypothetical) appreciate the drop in class, she's been in Group 1 company her past couple, she'll be up on speed and Snapped will be trying to run her down.

"Both mares are in great order,'' he said.
