Last Wednesday we witnessed a great first leg at the Metropolitano as Atletico looked in complete control and had a 2-0 lead at half-time after goals scored by Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino.

However, Dortmund's ability to come back almost produced a surprise as Sebastien Haller cut the deficit in half and Atleti narrowly escaped in the last seconds when Julian Brandt hit the post.

The statistics of the first leg promise an excellent second leg. Atletico's 2-1 win was deserved and came after a game in which they led 14-13 in created chances and 9-5 at shots on target. Both teams had eight corners as well.

Dortmund returned to winning ways at the weekend with a 2-1 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.

After that win, the team led by Edin Terzic will enter Tuesday's encounter with a tad of fresh momentum under their belts.

Dortmund haven't drawn any of their last nine games, winning six and losing three.

Atletico, on the other hand, managed an important 3-1 win at home against Girona over the weekend.

Across their last five official games, Atletico have picked up four wins and endured one defeat. It should be added that goals are always on the agenda when it comes to Atleti. Each of their last five games ended with over 2.5 goals scored.

Despite this, Diego Simeone's have reasons to worry. None more so than the fact Atletico have only managed three wins away in 2024.

This could play straight into Dortmund's hands who will have a buoyant home crowd behind them.

Team news

Borussia Dortmund will be without Samuel Bamba, Ramy Bensebaini and Sebastein Haller.

Atletico, meanwhile, are missing Memphis Depay, Vitolo and the injured Samuel Lino.
