NRL: Cowboys pose a threat to in-form Sharks

3 minute read

Cronulla Sharks have started the NRL season strongly, but face a major test when they take on North Queensland Cowboys on Sunday.

The Sharks have won four of their opening five games to sit second on the ladder and can be backed at 17.00 to go all the way and win the 2024 grand final.

North Queensland have won four and lost two and, at 19.00, also hope to be in the mix come the end of the season.

In the opening game on Sunday, Canterbury Bulldogs and Newcastle Knights will both be hoping to pick up their third wins of the campaign.

The two teams were hoping to push for finals this season, but have both won just two games, losing four.

Addo-Carr key for Bulldogs

. What: Canterbury Bulldogs v Newcastle Knights
. Where: Accor Stadium, Sydney
. When: 15:00, Sunday 21st April 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Canterbury Bulldogs 1.95, Newcastle Knights 1.87

The Bulldogs and Knights both suffered narrow defeats last weekend, and on another day could have ended up with the two points.

Canterbury lost by two points against Melbourne Storm, while the Knights lost by the same margin against Sydney Roosters.

Josh Addo-Carr was in great form for the Bulldogs when scoring three tries and he loves playing at Accor Stadium when scoring 21 tries in 22 games at the venue.

The winger can be backed at 8.00 to grab the first of the game against the Knights.

The Knights do have a good record against the Bulldogs when winning five of the past six games against them.

In 2023 they won 66-0 at Accor Stadium, and backed that up with a 42-6 win on home turf.

The Bulldogs have improved since then, but the Knights can be backed at 4.00 to win by 13+ points.

Sharks face Cowboys tester

. What: Cronulla Sharks v North Queensland Cowboys
. Where: PointsBet Stadium, Sydney
. When: 17:05, Sunday 21st April 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel, Channel 9
. Odds: Cronulla Sharks 1.65, North Queensland Cowboys 2.25

Cronulla Sharks will be out to pick up their third win on the bounce and continue a strong start to the season when they face the Cowboys.

The Sharks put South Sydney to the sword last week and will look to do the same to the Cowboys.

They have won four of the last five games at PointsBet Stadium, and 10 of their last 11 games against the Cowboys, so should be feeling confident.

Ronaldo Mulitalo will be a threat once again, and the winger is 6.50 to score the first try of the game.

North Queensland will be desperate to bounce back after losing just their second game of the season at Parramatta Eels last week.

The Cowboys can be backed at 6.50 to cause a surprise and nick the win by 1-5 points.

Winger Kyle Feldt also has a good record against the Sharks and is 2.80 to score a try at anytime.
