3 minute read

We’re off to Sandown on Wednesday, May 15th for another eight-race program that is dripping with talent.

A track rated in the Soft (5) range has materialised at publish, while the rail will be out a whopping 12 metres around the entire course this week.

I've run the rule over every galloper and race, and you can find my full Sandown preview and betting plays below.

RACE 1 - 12:25PM: 2YO Handicap (1000m)

Good drop in class for Brighella and I think he's going to take plenty of beating.

Brighella stamped himself as a colt to follow by winning on debut at Cranbourne last month and has since finished down the order in the Mornington Sires' and over 1400m at Caulfield.

He has a fitness and experience edge over his rivals, and this looks a perfect race for him.

RACE 2 - 1PM: Thoroughbred Club Of Australia Plate (1600m)

Onedayon was decent on debut at Cranbourne behind an impressive Night People and looks capable of breaking his maiden at Sandown.

Though well beaten in that race, the Justify gelding showed good potential and with natural improvement, something like this does look within his abilities.

RACE 3 - 1:35PM: Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives Handicap (1600m)

It has been a year since we saw Loco at the races, but I am keen to have something on when he resumes at Sandown on Wednesday.

Loco was a strong and consistent performer throughout his debut preparation, winning his first race start and ultimately ending his campaign a credible fourth in the SA Derby.

He clearly goes well fresh, while the fact that his campaign is being launched over a mile suggests that he is forward enough to run a race.

RACE 4 - 2:10PM: Benchmark 64 Handicap (1000m)

Heart Of Glass takes winning form into this contest and can make it two in a row.

The Impending filly has only made three appearances at the races since debuting, winning two times, with her only miss coming in Group 3 company.

She's open to plenty of improvement and something like this does look the next logical step for her to take.

RACE 5 - 2:45PM: Evergreen Turf Handicap (1000m)

Flying On A Limb steps out this week in peak order and ready to do something.

Flying On A Limb has been a great horse for the Clinton McDonald yard since debuting, but it is fair to say that she is yet to show her best form this time in.

That being said, she is at peak fitness following a fair effort down the straight at Flemington, while the drop in class this week and the booking of Jamie Kah are big ticks.

RACE 6 - 3:20PM: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1000m)

This is one of the better races on the program, but I am very keen on the resuming Inundation.

Inundation finished down the order in a hit-and-run mission at The Valley in early spring, but his form prior to that appearance was excellent, particularly at this point of his preparations.

Damian Lane further enhances his winning chances this week, and the 1000m at Sandown is perfect.

RACE 7 - 3:55PM: IVE Handicap (1300m)

Etincelle looks to have a bright future and can go on with it at Sandown on Wednesday.

The Grunt gelding broke his maiden here back on April 10th, while his only other appearance since heralded a close second behind George Get Mad at Geelong, who has since come out and only just missed at Caulfield on Saturday.

With further improvement and out to the 1300m this week, Etincelle looks well placed.

RACE 8 - 4:30PM: Benchmark 70 Handicap (1300m)

The Open can continue his rise through the grades in the last at Sandown.

The Deep Field gelding won on debut at Wangaratta back in January and went for a break after filling the minors behind Hey Fat Cat here at Sandown.

Having returned to action for an easy win over 1200m in BM64 company, he's another that is open to plenty of improvement, and something like this looks the next logical step for him to take.
