The Tasmania JackJumpers are on the verge of a maiden NBL title after Jack McVeigh's long-range game-winner sunk Melbourne United.

Jack McVeigh's dramatic NBL Championship Series game-winner will count for nothing unless the Tasmania JackJumpers go on to win the title, coach Scott Roth says.

McVeigh capped a superb individual performance in game three when he heaved a desperate last-ditch attempt in the dying seconds of Sunday's contest at John Cain Arena.

It rattled in to seal a 93-91 upset, giving Tasmania a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series ahead of game four in Hobart on Thursday night.

One more victory would give the JackJumpers their maiden NBL title, after they lost a grand final series to the Sydney Kings in their debut season two years ago.

"It's just another shot," a matter-of-fact Roth told reporters post-game.

"If we happen to somehow or another win a championship, they'll talk about it (for a long time).

"But right now it's just another half-court shot that went in."

It was McVeigh's second long-range game-winner this season, after he sunk the Cairns Taipans in similar fashion back in November.

"He's had two of them this year and he's just one of those guys that loves those kind of moments," Roth said.

"Obviously you're not scripting any of that - it just happened.

"But again, we haven't done anything.

"We're obviously excited to win in this building but we've just got to come back down and start recuperating and getting ready (for game four)."

Tasmania are sweating on import centre Marcus Lee's left leg injury after he was hurt in a collision with teammate Jordon Crawford.

Lee limped off during the third quarter on Sunday and played no further part in game three.

He faces further assessment on Monday before a call is made on his availability for the remainder of the series.

"We'll get him back to Hobart and see where we stand," Roth said.
