Live sites in Australia for Paris 2024 Olympic Games

3 minute read

Australian sports clubs and community groups have been encouraged to watch the Paris Olympics and Paralympics together at live sites and watch parties.

The Olympics and Paralympics LIVE program gives communities the chance to celebrate the triumphs from the Paris Games together, Australian Olympic Committee chief executive Matt Carroll says.

The program, from Games broadcaster the Nine Network, will be made available free to sports clubs, schools, universities, community groups and local councils.

The Olympics run from July 26-August 11 and the Paralympics from August 22-September 11, with many of the finals sessions taking place early in the morning Australian time.

"The Olympic and Paralympic Games are about bringing people together, and this world needs to come together," Carroll said.

"In Paris, the athletes of the world come together in a peaceful competition.

"Here in Australia communities can come together through the Olympics and Paralympics LIVE."

The launch at Darling Harbour on Thursday was also attended by Paralympics Australia CEO Catherine Clark, who lauded the exposure the Games provide to the nation's elite athletes with a disability.

"This is the only global platform when we see people with disability celebrated and showcased," she said.

The program will include live sites in major cities and watch parties at local sports clubs.

"There is nothing more certain than the power of sport - and in particular the power of the Olympics - to bring community together," Nine Network's chief marketing officer Liana Dubois said.

"I went back to my old school the other day and they were talking about how they're going to watch it.

"Having these live sites will make this whole experience even easier for them."
