Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 26.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Gunnedah, Moruya, Ballarat, Mildura, Sunshine Coast, Mount Gambier, Kalgoorlie, Hobart and Roebourne.
GUNNEDAH: RACE 7 @ 4:09 PM
AKASAWA (1) tough gelding who comes out of a strong race after resuming with a fast finishing third in the Tamworth Cup behind Gringotts over 1400m on April 26. Goes just as well second-up and should cope with the big weight impost from the good draw. Go close. CONVINCEBILITY (7) consistent gelding who had no luck from the wide gate in the heavy (10) conditions when sixth over 1300m at Warwick Farm on May 8. Strips much fitter now and can play a leading role. MAYFAIR SPIRIT (10) fourth-up today after doing all his racing in Queensland this prep. Goes well this trip and gets every chance from the inside draw. THAT'S MOLLY (9) freshened-up after battling in the going when 14th in the Country Championship over 1400m at Randwick on April 6. Gets in light with the claim and not without each way prospects.
SELECTIONS: Akasawa the one to beat.

MORUYA: RACE 1 @ 12:40 PM
ADOLPHUS (2) raced on the speed then proved far too good when resuming in a Wagga maiden over 1400m last start. Lightly raced three-year-old back in great shape and meets a moderate bunch here. Can get the job done again. HIGHLAND EIGHTGEE (7) was runner-up over this distance at Hawkesbury two runs back then was eased out of a race at Newcastle last time. Still a maiden but his figure from two runs back stacks up favourably in this company. BUFF MOBILE (1) has struggled at his last couple of runs over middle distances. Better placed back to this trip and should measure up. CHAMP PROFOND (3) has won two in a row at the picnics over shorter journeys. Gets in nicely with the claim and might sneak into the top three at her home track. LOZEN (10) is an each-way hope back in a country Class 1 after struggling at the provincials last time.
SELECTIONS: Adolphus to win.
BALLARAT: RACE 6 @ 3:30 PM
ERSA (9) has taken a few runs to hit her straps this time in but ran a much better race last start at this track over 1400m, boxing on well for second, beaten under a length. This trip looks a nice option for her and she can go one better. BAVARIAN LADY (11) resumes. She might concede a bit of fitness but was third in a stronger race first-up last time in. A repeat of that will go close here. STEEL JIMMY (4) is racing well and should be fighting out the finish again. CAPE DOCTOR (3) can improve off an even run first-up.
SELECTIONS: Ersa to win.
MILDURA: RACE 4 @ 2:15 PM
RED SEQUOIA (3) won back-to-back at Gawler and Strathalbyn before finishing unplaced at The Parks. He was up a lot in grade and back in trip in that and is much better suited today. On an 8-day return and will go close. HAWKEYEDHOST (8) is third-up and in need of the middle distance. Was spelled off a strong Maiden win at Hamilton over 2200m and she finally draws an inside gate. ELLE MCFEARSOME (7) has won and placed his last two and is ready for the step-up in distance. Maps for a soft run and also has claims. BANNERTON (2) peaks and has been around the mark. Is still short of his best but has a wide gate to contend with.
SELECTIONS: Backing Red Sequoia.
SUNSHINE COAST: RACE 6 @ 3:57 PM
Former NSW galloper INCESSANT (6) is having his first run for the new stable but showed plenty of ability down south and has revved up for this with a recent Deagon trial victory. Gets Maloney on to pilot and looks a big chance to be breaking the maiden status here. The well-related BINGHAMTON (1) (half to G2 winner and G1 placed Derryn) is another former NSW horse who should find this assignment easier than efforts when last in work. Can feature while fresh. OCEAN HONOUR (13) gets Du Plessis on to navigate from the sticky alley and may earn some minor money. ROCK LOBSTER (12) rounds out the selections.
SELECTIONS: Incessant to win.
MT GAMBIER: RACE 3 @ 2.05 PM
NORWOODS (8) led all the way fresh up at Horsham and was near to that form again when finishing fourth at Geelong just over a fortnight ago. He will relish the step up to a middle distance for the first time and is most likely to set the pace here. Hard to beat from a handy gate. MR FERRARI (4) has been in good form since winning his maiden at Strathalbyn by 4 lengths in March. He has been placed in 2 of his 3 starts on this track and is ready now to step up in journey. He is ready to win again. MOORAK MISS (11) is locally trained and her only career win did come on her home track. She was a solid runner-up at Horsham last time out and only needs some luck from a wide gate to be right in the finish here as well. Each way. SAVABOO (7) next best.
SELECTIONS: Norwoods to win.
KALGOORLIE: RACE 5 @ 7:30 PM
RED CADILLAC (1) likes it here and is racing her way into full fitness after 3 runs back from a spell. She has been in the money in all of her starts this prep and will relish stepping up to a middle distance for this assignment. On top. ARCADIA JEWEL (6) joined the top local stable of Peter Fernie at the start of the year and has not been too far away in all 4 starts this prep. She lands a decent draw and the step up in journey is ideal. She is capable of taking this out. SO LIKABLE (4) is heading the right way and is getting out to a more suitable distance this time. She only peaked on her effort late here a week ago and is ready now to put her best hoof forward. Each way value. KALLAROO (2) is racing consistently even though he has not won for some time. Patrick Carbery steps into the irons and he could make all the difference where it matters most.
SELECTIONS: Red Cadillac to win.
HOBART: RACE 9 @ 4:14 PM
SAXON MIST (7) races forward and last start she missed the hat trick by a half-length over this distance. Gets in light with the 3kg claim and has been kept on the fresh side. Has a handy barrier and she rates to bounce back. PRINCESS MATOAKA (6) has been knocking on the door and also has weight relief. Maps for a soft run and Newitt is a key jockey switch. CAPITAL CHEVAL (5) didn't have the best of it as favourite last time but the form prior stacks right up. Will likely give away a start but will be fitter again and should see out the mile this time around. ZEWINNA (8) continues to race well and will get every chance from a handy barrier.
SELECTIONS: Backing Saxon Mist.
ROEBOURNE: RACE 5 @ 4:20 PM
ROCKING THE MERC (4) was too strong last time out at Port Hedland, scoring by nearly 2 lengths. He gets to stay in the same grade and with only an extra 1.5 kilos to carry, he should be the one to beat again, but there will be no fancy price this time. KELLY'S LASSIE (3) needed her fresh-up run at Port Hedland just over a fortnight ago and the extra furlong second up is ideal. She has not missed a cheque in 3 starts on this circuit, including 2 wins and that stat makes her hard to beat in this. Stick with her. CAPE PRIDE (5) ran the race of an improver last time out at Port Hedland and looks to be on his way back into some worthwhile form. He has a good gate and won't be far away in the small field. EURASIA (1) is another that is expected to improve sharply second up. This is his pet trip and he will be right in the finish at some each way value.
SELECTIONS: Rocking The Merc to win.
