Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Hawkesbury, Ballarat, Ipswich, Narrogin.

HAWKESBURY: RACE 3 @ 2:25 PM

NICCI'S GEM (3) returned from a six-month spell with a game second last start over this distance at Newcastle, leading until the shadow of the post. Should take a lot from that hit-out and on this tighter circuit she is sure to prove tough to catch. DJAPANA (7) was only beaten two lengths over 1200m at Kembla two starts ago in an encouraging performance. Forgive the latest effort on a heavy track - capable of playing a major role with the winkers going on. Locally trained ROYALE VELOUTE (9) is back from a 24-week break. Raced three times in the maiden prep, the last of which was the pick when she worked home well for a midfield finish over 1400m here. Went nicely in a recent trial and is a likely improver this time in work. LAST DITCH EFFORT (2) battled on evenly to fill a placing here recently over 1100m. Looking for this sort of journey at the third run of the campaign. AMBITIOUS CREEK (1) did nothing on debut six weeks ago in town. Worth another chance in a modest affair.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Nicci's Gem.

BALLARAT: RACE 6 @ 4:00 PM

POWER MISSILE (2) can bounce back here. The first up run at this track over 1200m he ran second to a smart one before heading to Moonee Valley and dropping out to finish last. 1000m is the query but he has the ratings to be very competitive. ZOUTHUR (1) resumes. His only run over this trip was on heavy ground which he struggled on. His form thereafter reads very well, albeit over a touch further. Big watch. ALPINOVA (9) was far too good over this trip at Pakenham last time out. This is harder but she maps ideally and will take some stopping. ZABEELIST (8) was a dominant maiden winner at Bendigo first up. She'll get back but has plenty of upside and might prove better than these again. SWEET 'N' SPICY (3) perhaps next best.
SELECTIONS: Power Missile to win.

IPSWICH: RACE 9 @ 5:30 PM

MICKEY'S PRIDE (9) resumes for the Neasham barn and has delivered fresh and placed this distance. Wins this at best and has trialled well. Has a sticky gate but Maloney is a key jockey booking and can manage. Looks the one to beat. THE GOLDEN SOUL (3) placed here first-up and has more to give. Has a handy 2kg claim and is a chance with the extra fitness. CHAYSE 'N' ADAM (13) was spelled off the Maiden win here. Has the rail and is sure to have come on. In the mix. CRAZY EYED FRED (8) won the CL1 comfortably at Beaudesert and can build on that.
SELECTIONS: Mickey's Pride appeals.

NARROGIN: RACE 7 @ 5:07 PM

MONEY FOR OLD ROPE (1) has won his last two with the latest at York over 1500m as a firm favourite. He races forward and keeps the handy 3kg claim. The hat trick is within reach. FLOAT OUR BOAT (3) resumed in the same race beaten 1.2L. Found more like his best and will get a soft run from an inside gate. Fitter and should be right in it again. JACK IN THE BLACK (4) led and won at York over a touch longer before tacking a middle distance at Northam outgraded. Has to come back 480m but this isn't overly strong and he can get into the finish. MORTICIA (9) is in a leading metro barn and should be ready to show more.
SELECTIONS: With Money For Old Rope.
