Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for December 16.
Major metropolitan meetings are today held at Randwick, Caulfield, Eagle Farm and Ascot.
RANDWICK: RACE 10 @ 5:55 PM
JUNQUEIRA (12) has needed the two runs back and indicated a win was imminent when loomed up late to run fourth over 1200m at Rosehill on November 4. Kept fresh and expected to take plenty of stopping. SHOHEI (11) comes off a 42-day let-up after resuming with a tiring fifth over 1200m at Rosehill on November 4. Drops in weight here and strips much fitter now. SMASHING EAGLE (9) is a back marker who needs everything to go right in his races. Made up many lengths late when fifth over 1100m at Rosehill on December 2. Extra trip suits and not to be underestimated. CONTEMPORARY (10) the three runs back have been full of merit and never comfortable in the heavy (8) going when third over 1200m at Kembla Grange on November 25. Stays in the mix.
SELECTIONS: Junqueira to win.

CAULFIELD: RACE 4 @ 1:55 PM
RUNNING BY (8) caught the eye first up with a big run at Sandown-Lakeside, closing off strongly for second on a day that favoured those on speed. She looks nicely suited at 1400m second up dropping 5kg in weight and will take plenty of beating here. RUMBLED AGAIN (6) was beaten just 0.6 lengths first up at Cranbourne over 1300m. She contested some decent races last time in and looks to have come back well. Sure to give a sight. LONGTIMEDREAMING (4) has won both starts this time in, far too good at Donald second up. Harder again here but no reason she can't measure up. QUANG TRI (3) has been below her best at her past two but her best is good enough to figure and she draws well here. FRENCHMANS BAY (7) has a strong overall record and can figure.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Running By.
CAULFIELD: RACE 9 @ 5:00 PM
Tricky little race. PAL D'ORO (6) might be some value first up. He only had one run last time in at Flemington and was beaten 10 lengths and spelled, having also been poor before that spell. That said, his form prior reads very well for an open handicap, especially on the minimum weight. He should have no issue getting across and can give a bold sight at big odds. BERMADEZ (4) drops 4kg in weight from a rock solid first up run at Flemington. Meets a few others better off and will take beating. TONNEOFGRIT (11) is also through the Flemington run and will strip fitter second up. DUBAI POET (9) was okay in the Flemington lead-up but lands in front and will give a sight. GRAVINA (2) is not assured at 1400m but perhaps that is what he is looking for now as he gets a bit older.
SELECTIONS: Pal D'oro at odds.
EAGLE FARM: RACE 2 @ 12:13 PM
PRINCESS RHAENYS (10) has found the line well in both runs since a spell and did a good job last start for third at Doomben over 1615m, beaten 0.6 lengths. That run should have her rock-hard fit now. Goes well third up and looks ready to deliver. MADAME ODETTE (12) has placed in both runs this time in and ran on strongly last time when third over 1615m at Doomben. Looks suited at the longer journey and is proven third up so can peak. ANEMACORE (3) is lightly-raced and progressive. Faces a tougher test today but must rate as a player off back-to-back wins, the latest at this trip. CACOFONIX (1) has been solid in both runs since winning at Doomben. Suspect he is looking for this trip after running on last start.
SELECTIONS: Princess Rhaenys to peak and win third up.
ASCOT: RACE 3 @ 1:48 PM
MEGAMI (10) ran on strongly over the 1800m last time out and the drop back in trip should worry as she scored over the mile at Northam two back. Nicely placed at the bottom of the weights and a repeat of her latest effort will see her getting the job done. BILLY RAY (2) is on the quick back-up after a 0.4L defeat to a smart one last time out. He drops in grade for today's event and should get a dream run from the draw. In fine form of late and strikes a very suitable assignment. BIG BADA BOOM (1) ran on well first-up and should appreciate the rise in trip. He's placed 2/3 second-up and Oliver strikes at 11% when riding for Rogers. Right in the thick of things. CLASSIC ROGUE (4) finished behind Megami last time out and can be more positive from a better alley this time around. Not to be discounted. BLACK SPIRIT (9) may have found Listed grade a touch too strong last time but looks well placed here off the inside draw.
SELECTIONS: Megami can get the job done.
