Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for December 27.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Murwillumbah, Geelong, Strathalbyn and Geraldton.
MURWILLUMBAH: RACE 4 @ 4:00 PM
ITALIAN AWARD (7) has returned in good order this prep with a couple of minor placings. Stepped up to this distance and raced nearer the speed last time out when a close third at the Gold Coast poly. Very fit now and ready to break the ice. VERMEER (1) ran an encouraging second when resuming over this 1410m at Grafton two runs ago then struggled over 1700m at the Gold Coast last time. Lightly raced three-year-old who deserves another chance coming back in trip. VACATION LEAVE (4) made further progress last start when she just missed in a busy finish over 1700m at the Gold Coast. Not sure coming back in distance is ideal but she isn't out of the equation. ALWAYS SPLIT TENS (3) failed when in the market on debut 10 days ago. Should have more to offer than that.
SELECTIONS: Italian Award is ready to win.

GEELONG: RACE 1 @ 12:40 PM
TOGANMAIN (6) has been thereabouts in recent efforts and will strip fitter third-up from the spell. Draws low and looms as the main contender. BING'S DREAM (1) is a consistent conveyance who has hit the top-four in seven of his past eight starts. Has to be included. The well-related PINOTAGE (10) (half to 3xG1 winner Bonneval) best of the rest from the Moroney barn.
SELECTIONS: Toganman to break through.
STRATHALBYN: RACE 3 @ 2:45 PM
CHIARO (2) has found the maiden win elusive but shoulders best figures that put him right in the thick of this. The booking of leading rider Jake Toeroek is a good push for his chances. Can give this a shake. SPRAY GUN (4) has chased gamely to the line in his last two starts, without threatening the winner. Expect him to head back from the wide alley and be saved for the final shot at them. ROLL START (13) stuck on solidly into the minors here at the latest. Strips fitter and can go a couple better.
SELECTIONS: Chiaro the one to beat.
GERALDTON: RACE 4 @ 3:30 PM
Competitive race. BERNBRAE (3) has been very competitive in town all campaign, finishing just 0.6L away in tougher company most recently. She looks nicely placed back to this level and should be in a handy position under Fiore. May just prove too classy for this field. PLAY WITH DESIRE (4) stuck on gamely to get the job dnoe over 1925m here 18 days ago and that was in this grade too. Only rises 1.5kg for the victory and the draw should see him get every chance. MOMBASA (6) has rattled home over the top of his rivals his past two and now stretches out to 2100m for the first time. He races as though he will get the journey though and he drops right to the bottom of the weights. Can be flooding home once again. UNI QUEEN (9) is better than she's shown her past couple and a return to form would see her in the finish. JURUENA GOLD (5) was narrowly edged out last start and although the trip is some query, she has to be included.
SELECTIONS: Bernbrae gets the nod.
