Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 1.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Canterbury, Flemington, Inverell, Mornington, Toowoomba, Murray Bridge, Ascot and Gundagai.
CANTERBURY: RACE 2 @ 3:20 PM
HELLBENT ON YOU (6) Hellbent filly with plenty of upside resuming for third prep. Hit the line late when third behind UNTOUCHABLE LEGEND over this track and trip last August. Fitter with two trials and can finish over the top of these. KITTY CHAT (10) is a Menari filly resuming for the Waterhouse/Bott yard. Ran second on debut over 1200m at Warwick Farm last June. Has been given plenty of time to develop and two recent trials have been slick. Expected to go close. EQUIPAGE (4) has fitness on her side fourth-up and looks ready to win. Failed to surrender when a gritty second over 1400m at Kembla Grange on December 14. Sure to be thereabouts again. I AM FAMOUS (7) taken back from the wide draw when resumed two-and-a-half weeks with a plugging sixth over 1100m at this track. Fitter now and expecting more from the inside gate.

FLEMINGTON: RACE 1 @ 1:10 PM
MIDTOWN BOSS (1) is a progressive type resuming. He's only missed the placings once and his last two starts at Flemington behind top quality opposition read very well for this. If he's back and ready to go, he'll go close. MORNINGTON GLORY (4) was beaten by the barest of margins here last time out and continues to race well. He'll be hard to beat again. CORIOLIS (10) lines up for the first time since September 6 and did win first up at Newcastle last time in. Form last time reads well, respect. DAILY BUGLE (5) has a big finish on his day and wasn't far away last time. Can be running on.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Midtown Boss.
INVERELL: RACE 1 @ 1:15 PM
EVASIVE NATURE (7) looks a promising type and was an odds-on favourite when run down at Gosford first-up a few weeks ago. Well placed here and should go close. FAST ARTIST (8) is on debut after a sound trial effort at Tamworth in his only appearance. Nicely bred and one to keep safe. BLAZED PRINCE (2) and ARLO'S LOVE (12) are also first starters who have trialled okay. Check betting for pointers. ALERTADO (1) is another to keep an eye on.
SELECTIONS: Evasive Nature to win.
MORNINGTON: RACE 1 @ 12:51 PM
LADY OF SAVOY (10) is unlucky to still be a maiden finishing runner-up in all four runs this preparation. Strikes a very winnable contest here and can finally get the job done from the low draw. TOSEN WARRIOR (3) wasn't disgraced in town when resuming and will strip fitter for that hit-out. Looms as the main danger. The well-related OUR COUVER (4) has just missed the placings in both starts to date and can play a role in the outcome with natural improvement. THOMPSON (2) was given a spell to mature after a disappointing debut and a watch on betting is advised. ZIPPER GATE (5) has placed two of three overall and gets 3kg off with the claim. One for the multiples.
SELECTIONS: Lady Of Savoy to break through.
TOOWOOMBA: RACE 7 @ 5:10 PM
DON'T STOP (2) made an encouraging return last time out for third over 1350m at Doomben. Owns good statistics at the course and the distance and is favourably drawn. Well-placed and looks tough to beat. MONTENEGRO MAN (3) found the line nicely for second over this trip at Sunshine Coast when fresh from a spell. Two-time second-up winner so should be improved. Leading contender. HOT SPRING GOLD (1) was an Eagle Farm winner three back and has trialled so should be ready to fire fresh. THE TYLER (9) makes plenty of appeal resuming off a couple of trials while THE CULLINAN (10) is racing well and closing in on a win.
SELECTIONS: Don't Stop is well-placed. Backing to win.
MURRAY BRIDGE: RACE 4 @ 2:42 PM
MOON TREATY (5) turned in a decent effort last start when he worked home well to finish third at Morphettville. Suitably placed so anticipating another big run. OVERSTATED (6) is an Overshare gelding stepping out on debut for Jon O'Connor. Has worked nicely in readiness and with gun hoop Jason Holder piloting he has to be considered among the main chances. SIR REGINALD (8) caught the eye on debut when closing off strongly into a midfield finish. Improvement to come. Last-start placegetter KNIGHT DANCER (4) looks close to a win.
SELECTIONS: Moon Treaty the one to beat.
ASCOT: RACE 9 @ 5:39 PM
HANCHI (7) backed up his good run in the Placid Ark with a strong win over 1000m here 23 days ago. Back out in trip won't hurt and the figures from his last start win rate highly in this field. Still on the way up and can continue to work through the grades. PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC (2) wasn't disgraced last start when beaten 2.3L after doing plenty of work from the wide draw. Jumps from a much softer gate this time and will make his own luck up on the pace. Key player. STORMCHASER (12) held on to win last start in Open company but the draw is some niggle. Improving type though and is worth including. REAR ADMIRAL (10) will appreciate going back to 1200m and won't be far away.
SELECTIONS: Siding with Hanchi in the last.
GUNDAGAI: RACE 3 @ 2:45 PM
LIGHTENING BLAZE (6) was popular in betting last time out but disappointed when finishing fourth at Tumut. Continues to knock on the door and is ready to strike through. TAKE THE BRIBE (5) is building towards his maiden success, the latest effort a solid third at Tumut. Has his share of ability and is ready to play a major role. GEEZ LOUISE (9) finds it hard to break the ice but is rarely far away from the action. Warrants consideration in this field.
SELECTIONS: Lightening Blaze to win.
