Today’s Horse Racing Tips - 14th January 2024

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 14.

Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Coffs Harbour, Nowra, Sale, Sunshine Coast, Strathalbyn, Albany and Wodonga.

COFFS HARBOUR: RACE 4 @ 3:15 PM

KALAHARI HEART (1) was a month between runs when a respectable sixth in open company on a heavy track at Inverell last start over 1400m. Contested a similar race to this at Gunnedah two starts back carrying 1kg less and was beaten narrowly. Cherry ripe after three runs back and looks terribly hard to beat. LA QUINTA DONNA (5) made it three minor placings from as many appearances this prep when she powered home to get up for third last time out over this course and distance. Has been dogged by bad barriers but finds the fence today. The logical threat. PRETTY SHAMROCK (7) was ridden more aggressively last start and held on okay for a close fifth here at this trip. Rock hard fit and a decent chance in what looks a slightly easier race. SERENATA (10) has been racing well in weaker company, with two wins from three this prep. Must step up but at the weights she is an each-way hope. STELLA REDENTE (13) has been about the money of late without threatening. Minor claims.
SELECTIONS: Backing Kalahari Heart.

NOWRA: RACE 3 @ 2:50 PM

SOOBOOGELISCIOUS (4) was beaten 1L first-up and then held that figure when missing by the same margin in a 58 at Wagga. In a sharp yard and has the winkers applied the first time. The one to beat with Krogh sticking. ROBIN SPARKLES (3) improved sharply winning the CL1 at Canberra and will hit this at peak. Can secure a soft run and is a decent chance to repeat. BLOOD TIES (8) will be better again third up and also rates a winning hope. Uses the rail and is in well again with Barrett's claim. LADY KAH (1) is fourth-up and has been racing in stronger company. Keep safe with Guymer replacing the 3kg apprentice.
SELECTIONS: Sooboogeliscious appeals most.

SALE: RACE 2 @ 1:45 PM

LUKAN (4) just ran into one better at Geelong on debut and will have derived a stack of benefit from that day at the races. Childs sticks in the irons and strikes a very winnable contest here. Looks the hardest to toss. FLAG FLYER (7) finished seventh at Cranbourne when facing the starter for the first time but was only beaten just over a length. The step-up to the mile looks to suit and is capable of sharp improvement. SACRED TED (8) put in a better performance at the latest effort and appears to be improving with racing. Top-three conveyance. ABSOLUTE DEEL (1) is drawn to get a soft run in transit from the inside alley and is one for the multiples. The well-related LUNAR FROST (12) (half to G1 winner Lunar Fox) best of the rest.
SELECTIONS: Lukan to shed the maiden tag.

SUNSHINE COAST: RACE 2 @ 1:24 PM

DIANA'S AFFAIR (3) had put the writing on the wall with back-to-back placings then turned in a fine effort to win by 1.3 lengths at this track and distance last start. Building good records both here and at the journey so can salute again. WICKED'N' LOVIN'IT (6) ran on and proved too strong with a narrow win over 1600m here last time. The extra 200m should suit so can go on with it. BELLA TIVACI (7) scored two back at this track and trip and wasn't from the placegetters last time at Eagle Farm. Respect. WILLNOTQUIT (9) is working up to a win and only missed by head here last time.
SELECTIONS: Diana's Affair to back up the last-start win.

STRATHALBYN: RACE 5 @ 3:55 PM

RISING LEGEND (2) has been out of the placings in two runs since a break but has been far from disgraced. Cherry-ripe now and looks set to find best form with the benefit of a low draw. VERZENAY (6) caught the eye at Murray Bridge when resuming of a decent break, rattling home to just miss the frame. Expect her to have come on with that run under the belt. Gets her chance to break a long run of outs. STARLITE REBEL (7) is ticking along nicely this time in. Dug deep to get the verdict here two back before a sound chase into fifth last time when sent out public elect. Gets some good weight off her back this time and can make a return to the winner's circle. BASE OF FIRE (5) is yet to strike through this time in but did kick the campaign off in good order when just missing at Gawler. Has struggled to threaten of late but finds a suitable assignment to turn things around. BIG SHAQ (3) resumes and holds some appeal. Don't take lightly.
SELECTIONS: Backing Rising Legend to win.

ALBANY: RACE 4 @ 3:15 PM

QUEEN NARDI (6) has been very impressive at Geraldton since resuming, winning her last two comfortably by 2.3L. Looks a progressive staying filly and now Pike replaces the apprentice hoop. Wide draw may be some concern, but she looks a nice horse in the making and can continue her winning streak. WARRALEA DIAMOND (3) steps out in trip again today and loves this course and distance. The booking of McGruddy is a positive sign as he strikes at 14% when riding for Wolfe. Key chance on his last-start effort. BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE (8) has her hoof on the till after running on strongly her past couple. Now steps out to the mile which she looks as though she'll relish. Can be storming over the top of them late. YES OF COURSE (4) has the pace to burn across form out wide and was only narrowly beaten here two back. Keep safe. LET HER BOOGIE (2) may be better suited dropping back to this trip and has claims.
SELECTIONS: Queen Nardi goes on top.

WODONGA: RACE 6 @ 4:13 PM

BOOBOO BOOGIE (8) races forward and will be better for the second-up outing in much stronger at Caulfield. Gets more weight this grade but has plenty up the sleeve and presents for a sharp metro barn. Tough to beat. HEROIC CHIEF (7) led and showed more like his best beaten 2.4L at Sale. Will likely push forward and can get into the finish. MIKKI MAGIC (11) has won 3/4 this preparation and has the handy 2kg claim. Tougher but she races forward and will be suited around here.
SELECTIONS: Backing Booboo Boogie to win.
