Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 24.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Gosford, Sandown Hillside, Doomben, Port Lincoln and Belmont Park.
GOSFORD: RACE 7 @ 5:15 PM
COCO DREAMING (4) settled well back before unleashing a powerful finish to just miss when fresh from a spell last start over 1000m at Wyong. Stepped up in trip and was beaten under a length when second-up last prep. This looks the ideal assignment. MONTE SUPREME (10) won on debut at Hawkesbury then fizzed up pre-race, missed the start, and was eased out of the contest last time out over 1100m here. Has trialled since with Berry aboard and he takes the mount today which is a positive sign. Can bounce back. EXTERNUS (5) won here first-up then battled on evenly for third last Thursday over this trip at Wyong. Should be at his peak for this. TIDDILYWINX (8) returned after nearly two years on the sidelines with an impressive maiden win over this course and distance recently. Should take a lot from that run and is sure to be competitive. NAVY BLOOD (6) found 1000m at Muswellbrook a bit slick first-up. Can improve sharply out to this trip.

SANDOWN-HILLSIDE: RACE 1 @ 3:40 PM
DRAGOON (4) looks the one to beat here. He ran quite well in a bunched finish at Caulfield two back and just missed last time at Cranbourne, beaten a head by Immediacy who has won again since. With even luck he gets his chance to break through. TIME TO CHAT (9) has had three starts to date, good two back at Seymour when just beaten and solid again latest here, fourth and beaten just under 3 lengths. Shinn goes on and she should prove hard to catch. THOUGHTFUL WOMAN (8) is a 10 start maiden but has run 2nd on five occasions, including last start at this track over 1500m. Should be at peak fitness now and can break the duck. HOT CITY (6) put in an improved performance at his second outing at Warrnambool and could improve again here. REACTIVATE (1) next best.
SELECTIONS: Dragoon to win.
DOOMBEN: RACE 6 @ 5:10 PM
SMOOTH TORQUE (10) has been nudged out both starts this preparation. Spiked her figures at Eagle Farm last time against her own sex. Fitter again and a top hoop goes aboard. Ready for the mile and she appeals. THUNDER MANIA (5) has been racing in better class at Eagle Farm and is much better than the form line suggests. Two back she was beaten just 1.2L over this distance in a 70 and that would have him right in it. SECRETLY BETTER (6) brings a Maiden win from Ipswich and has the upside. Races forward and Orman is reunited. Has his first try at this distance and will be given every chance to run it out. GRACIE BLUE (9) improved again winning this grade/trip at Ipswich. Will give away a start but can't be ruled out.

PORT LINCOLN: RACE 7 @ 4:00 PM
HE'S ABEL (4) was denied narrowly of landing the cash here last start. Drops back to a winning trip where he's a course and distance specialist. Drawn well and is expected to take some beating. DANTELA (1) chased gamely into the frame here last start, making it two minor placings in a row after scoring here three back. Ticking along nicely and expected to run well again. MCCAIN (2) has struggled to threaten of late but is much better suited this time dropping back to this grade. Drawn wide but is expected to be doing his best work late. BEACH STREET (10) didn't give his rivals a sniff here two back when leading all the way over this journey. Not as effective last time but was far from disgraced. Can bounce back back.

BELMONT PARK: RACE 6 @ 6:00 PM
BEATS OF WAR (3) missed a whisker twice before delivering the win here this grade/trip comfortably. CJP is reunited and he looks well-placed to repeat the dose. PLAY WITH DESIRE (2) was beaten 1L by the above in that contest improving again. He may settle more forward today and can again prove a threat. OFIOREYES (6) comes out of the same race and got too far back. Won a Pinjarra-Scarpside Maiden by 7.2L over this distance prior. Draws low today and Chris Parnham sticking is a positive. A chance to bounce. FELLAFROMDOWNUNDER (4) raced favourite and improved again placing here over 2100m. Lightly raced with upside but needs a good ride from an awkward gate.
