Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 25.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Tamworth, Ballina, Pakenham and Wangaratta.
TAMWORTH: RACE 4 @ 3:05 PM
ACOTANGO (3) comes out of a strong Highway race when motored late from well back to finish fifth to PENTHOUSE over 1100m at Rosehill on January 13. This much easier and best form is over this track and trip. Will take stopping with the claim. MYSTERY LAD (2) nice return over this track and trip two back in Bm74 class when a sound second on December 24. Sat on the speed with the 60kg when a tiring sixth over 1200m here on January 8. Well placed this trip and has the right figures to take this out. UNRAVEL (1) in need of the run when resumed from a seven-month break with a tiring eighth over 1100m in Bm72 grade at Randwick on January 6. This easier and expecting a sharp improvement. MR SEVERINO (5) resumes after a break of four-and-a-half months. Can run into the minor money late.

BALLINA: RACE 5 @ 4:05 PM
DEEP BLAST (4) impressed first-up last start over this course and distance in a Bm66, closing well to get up for second. That was the first run under Adam Campton since coming from the Hayes stable. Loves the five-furlong trip and has won 2/3 second-up so he should be primed for this. EAGLE HAWK STAR (6) returns from a 29-week break and has transferred from Greg Eurell to Stephen Lee. Good fresh performer whose best form is over more ground than this. Not seen at the trials since November so a market watch is advised. ANOTHER SPIRIT (3) made it two on the trot when he easily took out an open sprint at Inverell on New Year's Day. Hard to beat again back in a benchmark race. BETTER THAN BOOZE (9) has been in the money at both runs this prep over 1200m at Kilcoy. Up in grade and back in trip but his best figures stack up. TECTONIC PLATE (8) is rarely far away so although tackling a better race today she is a solid each-way hope.
SELECTIONS: Deep Blast has the right profile.
PAKENHAM: RACE 6 @ 8:15 PM
HELLFIRE (1) resumed with a strong effort at this track and trip, running on strongly to just miss the winner. He showed good promise last time in against some decent opposition and will be running on strongly late. MERE MORSEL (4) has run third at both runs back from a spell over shorter trips and now gets to the 1400m third up. That should suit and with the right run she can figure. RISE AT DAWN (5) had two starts in his debut campaign, winning easily on debut at Werribee. Resumes here off a trial win and should run well. BAVICIA (2) can figure while fresh in a suitable race.
SELECTIONS: Hellfire to win.
WANGARATTA: RACE 4 @ 3:30 PM
SALCHOW (6) tried hard on debut when running on from the tail at Bendigo then again made ground when second-up at Sandown. This looks a nice race and a forward showing is expected. BERNAY (9) produced a solid effort on debut at Ballarat then was a little plain at Colac last time. Has been freshened for this and is worth keeping in mind. FINANCE STAR (2) is back from a spell of five months. Showed a win was near towards the back end of his last campaign. Demands respect if returned anywhere near that form. HOT SPRING (10) should be ready to show his best following two runs. Is trained here and looks one of the threat.
SELECTIONS: Back Salchow to win.
