Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for March 31.

Picture: Steve Hart

Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Mudgee,Nowra, Mornington, Sunshine Coast, Penola, Albany and Stawell.

MUDGEE: RACE 7 @ 5:15 PM

RUBI AIR (5) is back in class after a cheeky effort in the Country Championships at Coonamble off a wide gate. Draws much better here and the claim brings her down in the weights. Hard to beat. IMPERIONESS (10) resumes from a soft draw and has trialled okay. In good hands and bears close watching fresh. APACHE JEWEL (7) didn't fire in a Highway and while disappointing last time is capable of improvement with any luck from the wide gate. MY MATE KATE (14) is a definite chance while NEST IN THE HILLS (9) can improve.
SELECTIONS: Rubi Air to win. Trifecta 5-7,9,10,14/7,9,10,14.

NOWRA: RACE 6 @ 5:35 PM

ZALE (5) raced with mixed luck in town at his last two outings and lone placing came at this track four runs back. Gets the right run and will go close to shedding his maiden status. TOO SOON (13) in need of the run when returned for second prep finishing fifth over 1200m at Newcastle on March 21. Fitter now and the blinkers come off today. PROFESSOR PICKLES (4) is ready to make his return. Struggled to make an impact in his debut prep but looks to have progressed nicely during the break, off the back of some solid trials in readiness. Right in this fresh. FERGHANA (9) next best.
SELECTIONS: Zale to win.

MORNINGTON: RACE 7 @ 4:58 PM

KENTAHTEN (2) only missed out by a short head at Yarra Valley a fortnight ago, adding to his long record of minor placings to go alongside his solitary win. He has a lot in his favour this time and his win did come third up in the past. It could be his day. CUMBRIAN QUEEN (9) just peaked on his run as favourite last time out at Stony Creek 3 weeks ago. She is ready now to show her best form. Stick with her. Follow your money. PAINT ME RED (3) is very competitive at this level and is heading the right way, finishing second at Stony Creek by less than a length last time out. He loves it on this track and from a perfect inside gate, he is poised to go one better here. AMBERARNA (11) finished last when racing way out of her grade last start and is open to improvement at this level, especially with in-form apprentice Logan Bates taking 3-kilos off her back.
SELECTIONS: Kentahten to win.

SUNSHINE COAST POLY: RACE 3 @ 1:50 PM

IOANE (3) has been sent North to join the local Stuart Kendrick stable after failing as a prohibitive favourite at Newcastle just over 4 weeks ago. He has shown ability at the trials and meets a very average field here. He benefits from a 2-kilo claim and any positive market support should be closely followed. SUITE SECRET (12) ran on strongly when resuming in a stronger field at Doomben more than 3 weeks ago and the extra furlong here is ideal. She has 2.5 kilos less to carry and everything points to a big run. Can win. CHIEF BY (1) led for a long way at Dalby fresh up before being swamped late and finishing third. He has been given time to get over that run and those front-running tactics would make him hard to peg back on this circuit. HIGH CURRENCY (7) made a good Queensland debut here when finishing second fresh up. She led that day and has the same inside gate to make that possible again should her connections choose to employ those same tactics. Stick with her. Each way.
SELECTIONS: Ioane to win.

PENOLA: RACE 4 @ 2:25 PM

SECRET WAR (3) is a genuine eight-year-old gelding who resumed with a narrow minor placing last time out at Morphettville Parks. Shoulders a terrific second up record and goes super over this journey. Drawn to advantage and will take plenty of catching. EL SALTO (2) has been well below his best in his last three efforts but is capable of a much better showing on best figures. Don't dismiss. SPIN THE REWARD (6) is ready to make his return off an extensive break. Is up to this on best form and boasts a handy first up record. Expect him to be forward enough following a trial in readiness. FOSTER STREET (9) next best.
SELECTIONS: Secret War to win.

ALBANY: RACE 7 @ 5:00 PM

The feature of the day and MANAVENDRA (4) looks the one ot beat in the Albany Cup. He brained them in the Esperance Cup two back before a sound effort with a big weight at Bunbury. He drops in weight today and maps for a lovely run under CJP. He 'll take plenty of beating. BEATS OF WAR (5) should put up a worthy challenge after winning well at this track and trip 15 days ago. He's building a nice record and he'll carry no weight today. Looks a live chance. DUCHEES DEMERIT (8) has been running consistently of late and that level can see him competitive in this event. He'll most likely get back from the draw, but if they over do it up front, he can be storming home late. TONI'S SPIRIT (3) was super in the Bunbury Cup last start and a repeat effort would see her go close to winning this. LET'SDEAL (2) should appreciate stepping out in trip again and is not to be discounted.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Manavendra in the Albany Cup.

STAWELL: RACE 2 @ 1:35 PM

KEEPMEINTHELOPE (6) should take a power of beating here. First up he ran on well behind Isthmus who has won again since and was well backed to win a Group 3 recently. Last start he just found one better at Echuca and from the low draw expect he gets his chance. JUSTIFIED AT LAST (14) resumes. The debut run at Benalla was good before tackling a very strong maiden at Sandown. Can improve in this grade. FLEET FOOTED (2) has been about the mark of late and won't need to improve much to be figuring. Debutant RUN FREDDIE RUN (10) is from a sharp stable and any market support needs to be respected.
SELECTIONS: Keepmeinthelope to win.
